Leprechaun: Fair Payment [Episode 135247]

by Sunhawk

Kasumi hummed cheerfully as she set out the ingredients for breakfast. The sun was shining through the window, the birds were chirping, and, best of all, the house was all neat and clean after last night. She hadn't been looking forward to cleaning up, and repairs would have been expensive if her father hadn't asked Ranma to fix the place up.

Granted, he had asked at the top of his lungs, and it would have sounded to someone else like a demand, but that was just daddy's way.

Oh, who was she fooling? It WAS a demand. And while Ranma certainly shared some of the blame for it all, it would have been nice if everyone else involved had done their fair share.

She sighed, closing her eyes and listening to the breeze from outside for a moment. She wasn't sure what to think about Ranma. He was careless and rude, rather selfish at times, and not very well educated. On the other hand, he was friendly and helpful (albeit with a tendency towards obliviousness). Some day, some young girl would make him into a wonderful husband. Not her youngest sister, though. Akane was a sweet girl, but had a bit of a temper. And was sometimes as thoughtless as Ranma. No, her little sister needed someone more... mature than Ranma. And a bit, well, passive.

She doubted the engagement would last. And maybe, with all the exciting things that swept in ever since the Saotomes arrived, Akane would find someone who could take care of her.

And, a small voice whispered in the back of her mind, maybe there was someone who'd notice her?

Kasumi firmly pushed that voice away. She didn't have time for idle fantasies; she had to take care of her family. There was time enough for other things later.

She set the rice pot and the western tea kettle on the stove to boil. The Saotomes would be waking up soon to have their morning exercise, and her sisters and father would be up soon after to eat breakfast.

There was a rustling from the hall; it looks like someone got up early. She'd have to hurry on the meal, then.

The rustling continued, punctuated by low mutters and grunts. Kasumi frowned. Was there a problem?

She looked to the door in time to see a piece of cloth with an outstretched foot disappear from the doorway. Strange...

She quietly walked over and peeked out into the hallway, to see... a sleeping Ranma, futon and all, moving at a steady pace towards the door.

What was really odd was the small figure pulling it. She'd never seen anybody quite that short, grandfather Happosai excepted. Maybe he was taking Ranma out for training? She knew the young man liked his sleep and had to get motivated to get up in the morning, so maybe that was all it was.

But the muttering didn't sound like Happosai, and he didn't wear a large red beret. Maybe it was a friend of his?
