"Sure will," Vash replied.
"Thank you!"
"You're welcome... OOF!"
"It's been so bad..."
The blond man reached down and rubbed the head of the girl who now had her little face buried into his coat. This sort of pain should have never been forced upon anyone, and he knew that no matter what, he would never have left until this was resolved, had it been her or someone else that told him about it. For the moment though, he just wanted to gather her up in his arms to hug the suffering away.
But as the sound of a bullet filled the air in a way that only the harshest sounds could, she stiffened, and he sighed.
"I suppose that I'll have to go check that out," he told her.
Freed a little from the frozen position the gunshot had put her into, the girl looked up at him with big eyes. "You do?"
"Yup. That's what you're paying me for."
"Thank you, Mister..."
"Don't thank me yet. I've still got to get them to stop."
"But you will, right?"
"Sure thing. But you stay here."
"Huh? Why?"
"Because this sort of thing can be dangerous, and I'm being paid to stop the bad guys, not put you where they can shoot you."

Depending on how one considered it, his luck was either good or bad, as the gang didn't seem to notice him. He managed to walk up to the side of where they were clustered, without them even making much of a fuss. However, he could tell who was the leader, both by the mouth on the guy, and the little girl's description.
"So! Anyone else want to speak up?!" the gang leader sneered as he waved his gun at the crowd. "Do you?!" The townsfolk merely cringed in fear and stayed silent, save for a few whimpers.
"Didn't think so. Guess you lot know your place."
"Umm... Excuse me," Vash said uncertainly.
"Eh? Do we have a hero here?"
"I don't know about that, but isn't it pretty bad to go swinging around that gun, and shooting people?"
"Yeah, it's bad. And I like it."
"But I'm sure that he didn't do anything wrong..." the blonde man murmured.
"He laughed, and that's against the rules of the town. My rules."
"It's not nice to be mean to people like this."
"Then, I'll be mean to you," the gang boss scoffed, and pointed his gun right at the man in the red coat, while:
