But there were still plenty of ties to a simpler age, as they could never let them go. In plenty of cities were temples, castles, and other places that dated back hundreds of years. Even if the festivals now had catgirls joining in, they were still the same ones that generations of people had been celebrating. And no matter how much one enriched the soil or created machinery to work the fields, plants still needed to be planted, and continued to need time and space to grow.
So Genma barely blinked as he found himself and his son standing in the middle of a road, with a bunch of farms in the distance. It was similar to a lot of places he'd been before during his travels, and he'd seen plenty of communities like the one he was facing at the moment. In fact, as far as it seemed, the two of them were quite obviously looking like a pair of lost wanderers.
That wasn't too far off from the truth though, as they had been standing in a temple only moments earlier.
"Where are we?" Ranma asked as he looked up to his father.
"I don't know, boy," the elder Saotome replied, "but I don't think that we're in any danger."
"But we were in that other place, and then wind came, and the light exploded, and then we were here."
"Standing perfectly fine, still healthy and facing only a couple of small farms."
"Oh..."
"I suppose that scroll was only something to move someone from place to place... I don't know why, but maybe it's to put them someplace special. Hmm... What I could do with that..."
"So what d'we do?"
"Walk this way," Genma told his son, and led the boy along the road while:
