Runaway Mist: The Kunoichi of Destiny [Episode 136148]

by Mister-E

The chestnut-haired girl weaved to the right past a tree in which a pair of shuriken quickly embedded themselves into. The girl allowed herself a quick smile, they threw only a few weapons at her now instead of almost constantly to try and distract her to gain ground, and they were saving the last of their weapons for only the best shots. It didn’t help though, even if they did run out, which she knew better than to hope for, she would still need to deal with half a dozen highly trained Ninjas sent to assassinate her.

She was Kasumi, a runaway kunoichi of the Mugen Tenshin Clan. She left the clan to avenge her brother who was injured by Raidou who sought a technique, the Torn Air Blast. Raidou left with this technique, learning it as it was used against him. She chased him to the first Dead or Alive Tournament.

After Raidou had been dealt with she was captured by DOATECH who in turn created a clone of her. She escaped and found her way into the second DOA tournament and faced her clone defeating the copy-Kasumi in combat.

If that wasn’t enough her half-sister, Ayane, had also entered with murder on her mind. Kasumi had little idea why her sister was out for her blood, her being branded as a traitor not-withstanding. After an intense battle Kasumi walked away the winner.

Later she would face Ryu Hayabusa, a friend of hers and her brother. He made it known to her that he would not let her continue in the tournament, even if it meant defeating her himself. Despite her best efforts Kasumi lost, and Ryu took off to face a man named ‘Ein’.

She would later learn Ein was her brother, Hayate. Somehow he had lost his memory, to the point even his ninjitsu was forgotten. Instead his style was that of Karate, taught to him by a girl named Hitomi and her father. Ryu would defeat him and, somehow, defeat Bankotsu-bo, an evil Tengu from another world.

And at last she thought there was a light at the end of a long dark tunnel, her brother regained his memory shortly after his defeat. He would soon afterwards assume leadership of the Mugen Tenshin Clan. And perhaps she could return home...

No such luck, upon hearing she was a runaway Hayate’s first act of business was to order her death. It was a command he was disgusted to have order, even if forced by the Clan’s Code. It would haunt him each night and each day.

And so the third DOA tournament came about, and despite mixing the forms of Ninjitsu and Karate Kasumi was able to defeat her own brother, if just barely. She would lose later, however, to Ryu who in turn lost, surprisingly, to Zack. Kasumi had caught up to Ryu long enough to ask how he had lost to Zack, she had thought Ryu would dominate him easily.

“Zack is not as undisciplined or unskilled as you, or as I, would believe. He thought himself to fight and endured his own hardships. I still think he’s annoying as hell though...”

And with that Zack won the tournament and departed for Los Vegas.

And with that she was on the run again, dodging Ninja from her own clan almost constantly.

Which brings us back to the chase. Kasumi leaped into the air to clear a fallen tree as a kunai flew by her, scoring a gash on her upper thigh. She let out a cry of pain despite herself and landed hard on her now injured leg. She tried to will herself to continue, but her leg gave out and she fell. If falling with six bloodthirsty Ninja chasing you weren’t bad enough she landed on a slope and upon landing she rolled down the hill. She rolled with it as best she could to keep from hurting herself more than she already was, but part way down her head slammed itself into a rock, sending her into unconsciousness.

Her body rolled to a stop at the bottom of the hill. The Ninja slowed down and approached, each hiding a smile under their masks as the approached the traitor. The leader drew a sword and gripped it in his hands. “And now... it ends.” He stopped in front of the injured girl, a gash on her forehead dripping blood into a pool on the ground. He raised his sword up high...

And was slammed by a figure that seemed to have come from nowhere.

The leader rolled landed in front of his comrades, quickly scrambling to his feet to face this new foe who took a defensive stance in front of the fallen runaway. “Whoever you are, leave now, this does not concern you.”

“Wrong, it concerns me now.”

The leader frowned as his comrades drew their weapons, adopting offensives stances and spreading out to surround the figure in a semi-circle.

“Who are you, one who runs headlong into other’s affairs?”

“Me? I’m…
