With many guys not around or lacking in certain behavior patterns, it fell upon the female part of the equation to be the aggressor in certain matters.
In the case of Mamoru Chiba, a ward of the state, it was quickly found that he would grow into a tall and fairly handsome individual. By the time he reached high school he was engaged to four different girls, all of whom were quite wealthy or well placed in society, and it seemed exceedingly unlikely he'd ever even visit Azabu Juuban in Tokyo.
Another survivor, one Ryoga Hibiki, ended up wandering from one end of Japan to another - often unintentionally leaving a wake of broken hearts behind him. Some of these, quite naturally, swore vengeance upon him.
Genma awoke two days after his capture, to find himself in a very strange place and under some very sophisticated restraints.
Then there was Ranma Saotome, age fourteen, now without any parental supervision at all.
He spent the better part of two days looking for his old man, currently vanished. No sign of him, and Ranma could admit that his old man stood out.
So... that meant the old man would have to catch up. Which meant, in turn, that the training journey just had to continue under new management!
With that decision made, Ranma decided to continue his plan by:
