No, it had a whole lot to do with the fact that he was one of the few males in a school full of girls. So he had to deal with the fact that everything came to a standstill, and only a few guys were left to take care of hundreds of sick girls. It was not a responsibility that he planned on taking easily, but that did mean that he had thirty girls to check up on.
Though, for a teacher like him, it was an experience just to see them when they were healthy.
When they were sick... it took on a whole new variation that he was sure was not what other teachers had to deal with.
"Oh, I'm so sorry that you had to drag yourself away from your bed..." Ayaka sighed as she looked up at him from her own prone position.
Negi rubbed the back of his head. "I'm not the one who's sick, Ayaka... Besides, it's my responsibility as a teacher to check up on my students at a time like this."
"How noble of you. Coming just to see me!"
"Well, I had to make sure that you were alright..."
"You're so wonderful!" she declared, and, with the strength that only the truly ill could get, she reached up and clutched him to her bosom, holding onto the boy for dear life.
"AAAAHHHH! Ayaka!"
"Sensei..."
"Erk!"
"You must be tired... Why don't you stay here and rest?" "I really have to check on the others..."
"Miss," the butler commented, "Your teacher is a most responsible young man."
"Yes, he is. If only..." Ayaka sighed, and let him go, her body going limp as she used up her reserves to do what she did.
Her teacher just turned a grateful look on the harried manservant and received one of understanding in return. Negi did wish that he could help the man, as he did seem to be tired. After all, most of his staff was made up of maids...
"I'll try to check up on you later," Negi told the blonde.
She turned as bright a smile on him as she could manage. "I'll be waiting for as long as it takes."
"I am not supposed to be catching anything," the girl on the bed muttered irritibly, trying to get comfortable despite her wings.
"Evangeline, every girl is catching this," Negi said helpfully as he fluffed a pillow and put it under her head.
"I don't need any help, especially yours."
"I never said that you did."
"Why are you here, anyway?"
The ten-year old shrugged at her. "Where else would I be?"
"Just like that man..."
"If you say so. But as your teacher, your health is already of concern to me and with this flu going around, you need someone to really take care of you."
"I can take care of myself. And you can go."
"Okay, but... Chachamaru?"
"Yes, Sensei?" the robot girl replied.
"Since you won't get sick, I'd like it if you watched Evangeline for me. Don't let her get out of the bed, and make sure that she gets plenty of care. Okay?"
"Yes, Sensei."
Evangeline just looked at them both and 'humphed' loudly.
Not that the boy she was trying to push noticed. "I'll see you later, Evangeline."
Nodoka Miyazaki gave a wide eyed look as Negi had come closer, but he had merely tried smiling to take away her nervousness. She couldn't go anywhere though, and he knew that most girls would be rather concerned about having a boy, even if he was her teacher, in her room.
He brushed her hair away so that he could press his palm against her forehead and pressed his lips together. "You still seem to have a fever, Nodoka."
"I... I do..?" she squeaked.
"Uh-huh. Though it's not as bad as before. I'm really sure that you're doing better."
"That's good, right..?"
"Very good. But I'm not a doctor... It's just really too bad that we haven't got many of those around here..."
"Are they sick, too?"
The teacher nodded. "If they're a girl, they're sick."
"Oh..."
"So it's good to have him around, don't you think so?" asked Yue from her own bunk. "He'll be around to stay close and make sure you're well...
"Eep..."
"Ahh... I'm exhausted," Negi groaned as he lay across the table in the room he was staying in.
"You must have been really going around to a lot of places," Kamo said from where he stood on the table. "Right, big brother?"
"Yeah... I had to make sure that each of my students was okay..."
"A very big responsibility."
"Exactly. I don't know how I keep on moving, but I need to rest, or I'll be sick when they get better..."
"But that won't be a problem, will it?"
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Well, after all the care you put into them, there will be many grateful young girls all clamoring to return the favor, and take complete and utter care of you..." the ermine trailed off.
"Kamo..."
"What? I'm sure that they'll let you just bask in the care of their loving hands..." Just then, a pillow smacked into the furry critter, knocking him off the table. "GAH!"
"Stupid. Can't you think of respecting sick girls," Asuna muttered as she tried to roll over to glare at them.
"Asuna, you really should be resting... Konoka's sleeping. Why don't you?" Negi asked.
"Don't need to. I'll be alright, and I have to get my strength back to work."
"But you'll do better the more you rest. Besides, your bosses called, and said that you can have the time off."
"Just great... Getting bossed by a kid..."
"I'm only trying to keep you on getting better..."
She merely rolled back over, and growled weakly under her breath.
'At least she seems to be getting better,' he thought to himself, trying not to note the tail sticking out of her pajama bottom, while:
