”So,” General Jack O’Neil said, looking at the television at the other end of the briefing room. “Tell me this isn’t our fault.”
”Well, we didn’t have any cases of women reporting in sick until at least a day after the first outbreak here in the US,” Daniel Jackson noted.
”It seems that the first cases of this illness began in Japan,” Teal’c said calmly.
Jack sighed, leaning back in his chair. “Just so we’re clear, I’ve had to talk to the President twice today,” he pointed out. “And weird cases of the flu that turn girls into... what was the word they used on the news?”
”Furries.”
”Thank you Daniel. And thank you for not going into that rather long and boring backstory again.” Jack shook his head. “Anyways, he’s starting to wonder if we had something to do with this. And so are a lot of other people with lots of authority. That’s a bad thing.”
Daniel sighed, taking off his glasses for a moment. “Well, given what we know, I’d put good money that this didn’t come from us. It’s pretty obvious it started in Japan, all the evidence is clear on that. The problem is that once the trail enters Japan, we really can’t follow it that well.”
O’Neil merely smiled. “Oh ye of little faith. If I put a call through to the President, what do you think the chances are he’ll talk to the Japanese government for us? Sure, he’s been wondering if we have something to do with his daughter sprouting mouse ears, but still-”
”You are proposing that we attempt to track down the origin of this virus?” Teal’c asked, curious.
”Bingo,” the Air force General replied, slapping his palm against the side of the bench. “The Gate’s been shut down until we can confirm we’re not going to go and spread this thing to the galaxy, which means we need to figure out what the heck’s going on here. The Japanese have known about the Stargate program for a while now, they’d understand the situation...” he grinned. “And can you see them saying no to the United States helping them out with this mess, by sending in a team that are the planets experts in the unusual, odd, and just darn freaky?” Sergeant Harriman chose that moment to come up the stairs, stopping as Jack held up a hand. “Hold up a sec Walter.”
”In the event that the Japanese authorities do provide us with access,” Teal’c said, “Where would we begin the investigation?”
”There, we have a starting point, at least somewhat,” Daniel added, standing up. “Now, the moment that people started to realize it wasn’t just the flu bouncing around Tokyo, the various news stations started digging around. The first reports of physical transformations came from one of Tokyo’s outer suburbs,” he continued as he paced. “A place by the name of Nerima. Now, I did the usual google and what have you, and Nerima seems to have a strange reputation, stories that... well, they seem a little odd, even for us.” He shrugged, a slightly confused expression on his face. “Crazy martial artists, magic or close enough to it, Chinese Amazons-“
”Say what?”
”Chinese Amazons.”
”In Japan.”
”That’s right.”
Jack looked over at Teal’c, an innocent look on his face. “So... Ishta’s been recruiting again?” he asked. The only response was a slight glance. “Okay... shame, she’s look nice with fox ears...”
“Jack,” Daniel protested.
“Oh, I was listening. Weirdness, Nerima, look for clues there. Walter?”
The Sergeant looked somewhat embarrassed. “Colonel Carter’s on base sir. She’s in the medbay now.”The two men sitting at the table, and the one pacing, all looked at each other, surprised. Jack spoke up first. “I know she was at home, in bed from this flu.”
“I was going to visit her tonight,” Daniel noted.
“As was I.”
O’Neil sighed. “Carter, Carter, Carter... I told you to stay home today,” he muttered.

As the men approached the medbay, they paused at the sight of a somewhat scrawny looking man in a rumpled labcoat, leaning against the wall with a dazed smile on his face. “Felger,” O’Neil mumbled.
“He appears to be in a state of shock.”
Against his better judgement, Jack waved his hand in front of the scientists eyes, before snapping his fingers a few times. “Oi! Felger!” After a moment, he turned to the other pair. “He’s out of it.”
“He must’ve seen Sam, after whatever this flu did to her,” Daniel guessed.
Jack spared Felger one last look as they continued walking, loosing sight of him around a corner. “Doesn’t he have a girlfriend now? Or he did, last time I checked.”
“So I’ve heard,” Daniel noted as they entered the Medbay, all three of them skidding to a halt.
Samantha Carter was sitting on one of the beds, looking rather miserable. She hadn’t changed that much physically... well apart from the tail and the ears... and maybe the eyes. “Morning sir,” she said, before sneezing and rubbing at her nose.
Jack sighed. “Carter, I thought I told you to stay at home,” he reminded the...
