Bornes & Nables: Books for the Bookworms [Episode 137938]

by Archangel Bloodraven, Lord of Bloodraven Keep

Ranma stepped back near the counter and perused the store, trying to decide how to best press his luck.

"HEY YOMIKO! You got a customer!" A shrill voice yelled.

Ranma turned to see a pink haired young lady dressed in the store uniform of black slacks, white blouse, and black vest yelling at another similarly dressed, older woman. The older woman, identified as Yomiko by both her nametag and the younger girl's yelling, sprang to her feet with a book in her hand.

"I'm sorry, Anita." She murmured flipping the bookmark over and reading the backside quickly before setting them both on the chair she had occupied a moment before. "Welcome to Bornes and Nables Bookstore. Today we're having a buy one, get one free sale on Manga and graphic novels. Also all alternative media is 45% percent off, this week only. I personally recommend the 'Made Easy' series, a B & N exclusive. Also we have full and part time employment opportunities in this store if you're interested. Please feel free to ask me or any other store representative for assistance."

Before Ranma or Nabiki could say anything, Yomiko had resumed her seat and her book.

"Um... yeah." Nabiki said in puzzlement. "Uh Miss..."

"Just Anita." The young lady said tapping her nametag. "I'm surprised we got that much out of Yomiko. Anyway, what can I help you with?"

"About this alternative media promotion, what's included in that?" Ranma asked.

"CD's, audio books, DVDs. Anything that's not a book. Magazines are also included." Anita ticked the items off of her fingers as she stepped out from behind the counter.

"And your 'Made Easy' series?" Nabiki asked.

"This way." Anita said, leading the way back into the rows of shelving. "Like the popular Everything, For Dummies, and Complete Idiot series, our 'Made Easy' books are a simplified introduction to a variety of subjects. Everything from Akido to Badminton to Computers to..."

As Anita continued ramble on, Ranma couldn't help but notice that despite having passed at least a dozen shelves, when he turned back he could still clearly read the title of Yomiko's book and the books behind the counter. "Weird."

"Tell me about it." Anita said wryly, turning towards the side wall where a row upon row of red books sat beneath a banner proclaiming them to be "Bornes and Nable's Made Easy Series". "The store is weird like that. I guess that's how they get so much stuff in this space. All of our 'Made Easy' books are here on this wall. Is there anything else I can do to help you folks out?"

"You said you had job openings?" Ranma asked, looking around with a gleam in his eye.

"Yup. Right now it's just me, Yomiko, and my sister's, Maggie and Michelle. They're out back bringing in the new inventory. Would you like to fill out an application?"

"Would I ever." Ranma agreed, following Anita back to the front counter, as Nabiki browsed around. This will be great! He thought. I'll be able to get away from those idiots at the Dojo, make some money to pay off Nabiki, and probably best of all... all these books, just begging to be read!

Anita groaned. "Oh great, another one."

"Another what?" Ranma asked.

"Book lover." She said rolling her eyes, handing him the application. "You've got that glazed hungry look in your eye, just like Yomiko and my sisters."

"I do love to read. I don't really get the chance because my father thinks that if it's not martial arts related it's not useful."

Anita smacked her forehead as Ranma breezed through the paperwork. "What an idiot."

Ranma smiled as he handed back the application.
