Second Chances, Ltd.: Facts by Rei [Episode 138704]

“Okay, I’ll bite,” said Ranma.

“That would be unadvisable,” stated Rei.

“He means he’ll ask the question we want to know, Wondergirl,” grumbled Asuka.

“Very well,” she said, facing him.

“Can you explain it to use then,” he said.

“Very well; I am a complete version of Rei Ayanami, the result of all the fractions of her soul reintegrated into one being, made whole during the finals acts of the Human Instrumentality Project, given form when Ikari-kun rejected it.”

“So you’re the whole girl,” said Nabiki.

“Correct.”

“And what was that thing that reduced everyone to that goo?” Nabiki, her mind shuttering a bit at all she had learned and been exposed to on that side, as well as what she had brought back.

Rei paused a bit, considering her words carefully. “The best description would be a form chosen by a program to complete its main task of reducing all members of humanity into LCL for the purpose of fulfilling the goal of forcibly evolving humanity into one being.”

“So whatever was doing it decided your form would be default?”

“Correct,” Rei responded, nodding to Nabiki.

“Why’d they want to force human evolution?” asked Ranma. “I mean, hell, I ain’t even certain what my limits are, or even if I got them.” He held out his hand, forming a ball of ki. “Ain’t like what I do is common stuff.”

As the pilots and Misato could only stare, Rei nodded. “Their main ideology differed on the reasoning behind it; they were split between either humanity’s growth had stagnated, and thus would lead to the end of humans since nature does not favor stagnated species, or that the evolution of humanity was not proceeding fast enough.”

“So we had to go through that Hell because some old fossils thought we should have been higher up on the food chain?” yelled Asuka.

“Correct,” said Rei, nodding in her direction.

“But Misato said the Angels were humans who rejected the human form,” said Shinji, recalling a bit of her speech when she had dragged him back to fight the invasion.

“Angels were a competing ideology of evolution, connected but not connected to humanity, a path led by Adam’s Instrumentality, and not Lilith’s,” she responded.

“Great,” sighed Ranma, leaning back against the wall. “Our future’s a damn manga; aliens fighting over the destiny of our world. And I don’t even get a cool mecha to fit ‘em.”

Shinji just sighed. “It wasn’t that good.”
