Gundam Seed - After War: Sketches of a Chief Mechanic [Episode 139255]

by Yasanagi

"Heads up!!" Jack Kagor, one of the three M1 Astray pilots serving on the Kusanagi, passed the yellow volleyball towards one of his teammates. Currently his Astray squadron had teamed up with a few bridge bunnies to play against the engineers in a fierce game of water polo. So far, the engineers were ahead by a goal. Jack grinned when his teammate was able to throw the ball past the engineering team's goalkeeper to tie the game.

"Okay! Second period's over! Everyone take a breather before resuming!" shouted Nathan Walp, a resort employee who acted as the referee and sat in a spot able to keep an eye out on everyone. Both teams hopped out of the pool to take a breather. The engineers walked over to where their direct superior officer, Erica Simmons, lounged in a one piece navy blue swimsuit. A sketchbook and a mechanical pencil were in her hands and she seemed to be doing some drawing.

"Sketching anything interesting, chief?" asked a male who had grabbed a towel to dry himself off.

"We're not on duty so you can call me by my first name, Gene. And I'm just thinking if it was possible to construct another pack for the Justice," said Erica as she continued making her sketches.

"Erica, give it a rest already! The Justice is plenty strong enough with the default Fatum-00 pack and let's not forget the power it can unleash when it has a METEOR," said Chris before he started draining a body of orange juice.

"True but I would also like the Justice to be a bit more flexible. Like the Strike Rouge is. This subflight lifter will allow the Justice Gundam to transport other smaller vessels. From small mobile armours to military and civilian vehicles." Erica used her pencil to shade in the unit a bit before labelling her sketch as the Knight Justice Gundam.

"So basically, you're saying we can add taxi cab to the Justice's technical data?" asked Gene. "Almost makes me wonder if you're going to do the same thing to the Freedom."

The chief mechanic rolled her eyes slightly with a small grin. "Don't worry. I didn't do any such thing."

"Then what's this little sketch here, then?" asked Chris as he noticed a vague drawing on the page next to the Knight Justice Gundam picture.

The sketch was simply labelled as Super Freedom Gundam. Other than a small adjustment to the Freedom's 'wings' for lack of a better term, there does not seem to be that much of a difference. "I honestly don't know if there's anything else we can do to upgrade the Freedom. It's a powerful machine by itself without relying on a backpack for some of its weapons like the Justice does."

"We are set to go for the third period! Both teams back into the water!" shouted Nathan again. Chris and Gene went back to where their team gathered together while Erica continued her sketching.

**********

"HARO! WAIT UP! HARO!!" The small red electronic companion of Lacus Clyne bounced after Birdy, Kira's green companion that had been with him since Athrun gave it to him a few years ago. Kira simply sat back and enjoyed the garden atmosphere while Lacus had a conversation with Reverend Malchio.

"Would you like more tea, Reverend Malchio?"

"Yes, please." After his tea cup was refilled, the blind man took a sip before giving a soft exhale. "I suppose you're curious as to the diplomatic situation at the moment between the Earth and the PLANTs."

"The thought did cross my mind," replied the female Coordinator.

Malchio paused to remember what he had been told earlier. "Although the draft for a new trade agreement had been drawn up, there is still quite a bit of debate regarding the nuclear power issue and the development of new mobile suits and military technology. The good news is that both sides have agreed to meet again to speak about these issues in about four to five months."
