Actually, that was the result of long debates and Ranma repeatedly sneaking out of the castle in attempts to go off on an adventure.
So far the closest he'd come was halfway out of the crystal sphere when he'd hidden in the hold of a ship of N'barrian Snakemen but that was another story altogether.
Unfortunately, when it came to what kind of adventure - things got a bit loud.
The Dwarves thought that the young prince would be best served by a tour of duty exploring his kingdom. He could see how his various subjects lived and worked and therefore appreciate their concerns all the more while he was on the throne.
The Elves looked down their noses at the Dwarves' suggestion, though with their relative heights it could be said they didn't have much choice in that aspect. The counterproposal was time aboard an Elven Man O War, patrolling the system and dispatching pirates and spies and worse in the void between the planets.
The Catpeople didn't care for either idea terribly well. Their suggestion was that Ranma return to his homeland, as he'd been away for several years now. Touch base with his roots and all.
The Wizard's Guild thought that Ranma should undertake a quest. Find something that needed doing or retrieving anyway, then have him accomplishment. They felt it was far more educational that way.
The priestesses of Eilistrae suggested that Ranma spend time at their temple and take part in a few ceremonies. THAT flew over with the other groups not one bit. At which point the priestesses changed their suggestion to following the Elves idea, but using a more cosmopolitan crew as opposed to a completely elven one.
One of the clerics of Tennyson suggested that whatever went on, a beholder ought to be sent along to keep an eye on the boy.
The ogres conferred, decided they had headaches from all the arguing, and quietly left to go find somewhere they could have a few pints and lament about the human condition. Or the ogre condition. Whatever, just as long as they could have a few pints doing it - they weren't that picky.
And so on. The argument went on late into the night and was only resolved when:
