Magic Prince Ranma: Other touches [Episode 14123]

by Kestral

The world itself was something found by Bahamut years ago. A crystal sphere that was difficult to find because it was up above the plane formed by its nearest neighbors. Krynn, Toril, Oerth all being on a sort of level with each other and trade routes missing entirely that there was a sphere there, and those who found it didn't find the access.

It had the typical fire body or sun in the center, and had three worlds orbitting it in the usual fashion. The outermost was an iceworld with a narrow equatorial temperate zone. The innermost was a land of chaos and change but great mineral wealth, bordering on the Plane Of Minerals in some areas. Also a place of storms of raw magic. A nice place to visit, but a difficult place to live. The center world had a single moon, crescent shaped, and was fifteen thousand square miles of shallow ocean and near-tropical jungle.

This then would be the Kingdom of Ranma.

Other divinities found this land and let it become a place of Refuge for other groups of misfits and exiles.

Bast led remnants of a race of werecats.

Corellon noted his daughter Eilistraee had good aligned drow, and that this place would be perfect for tribes of winged elves that had been displaced by other elves and their war with orcs.

Spelljammer ships carried refugees as the word was subtly placed in receptive ears. Here was a prince of a fledgling kingdom who didn't care what your race was or what your ancestors had done. A chance to start anew in a wild land where the soil was fertile and the game plentiful.

There had been prior inhabitants - a race of sorcerous lizardmen who had created vast soaring cities, only to destroy themselves in a war that had left most of those cities ten mile wide craters and the rest ruins.

Save for the castle, which Bahamut had put to rights even as Ranma and Genma were trying to meet this huge crowd of short refugees that Moradin had brought around.

The spelljammers were bringing werecats looking for a home and drow seeking a better life than the one Lolth allowed them by the time the dwarves had decided that tunnel-festooned mountain over there looked just fine and if swearing fealty to some human prince was the price tag - well, maybe he needed a dwarven advisor so he grew up sensible.

A war between goblinkin and elves was brewing again elsewhere, and a shipful of ogres said to heck with that noise! They ended up farmers in a little cove off by themselves. Demonstrating that while none of them were ever going to dazzle someone with their brilliance - some of them could be smart enough.

The dwarves got a new neighbor in those winged elves as they claimed a mountain for themselves. The drow found the bright days to be painful but there were plenty of ruins extending below the surface to provide ready-made warrens that merely needed a little fixing up to be suitable.

Werecats found the dinosaurian creatures in the jungles and plains to be quite tasty. Wolfen and rakasta and tortles from yet another world came to trade and some found themselves staying after a few visits.

A few rogue beholders who followed a deity named Tennyson set up shop within the first year.

Each race struggled to put a voice in the palace - someone to advise the young prince and make sure that any nastiness didn't develop without their knowledge.

So Ranma quickly found himself with a number of playmates and friends and advisors and teachers. There were wise councillors who often had a joke or two, elegant elves with their magic, and then there were the dragons.

A mere year into the formation of this Magic Kingdom, Ranma found himself getting more and more into a new profession - a sideline to the job of prince. For with all these other influences, Ranma was less a ne'er do well, and becoming a:
