Earth and Moon Inverted: The Light of the Moon [Episode 141659]

"Tsukino-kun. ...Tsukino-kun, wakey wakey now..."

...Bleah?...

"You are drooling on the keyboard. Which happens to be school property. Now wake up before I give you the ice-cold wet compress treatment."

--Bleah.

A small titter of laughter danced around the room, with a couple of housewife types in there 50s and some older pensioner types looking openly amused.

"--Awk. --Sorry, Teach."

"All right, Tsukino-kun. Since this is one of the few courses that are taught by actual live human being type teachers, even if it's via net, and the teacher happens to be in Shizuoka right now--It really would be better if you tried not to sleep through it, you know. Even if you could always rewatch the canned versions."

"--I know. Sorry."

The teacher--or rather coordinator, since his main job really wasn't about teaching per se--sighed, and hid a smile when he saw Tsukino Uryuu make a apologetic half-bow to the small figure in a suit in his comp monitor. It wasn't as if the Professor Mochizuki would actually notice that one of his net-students had been sleeping in class, after all...

But that was Tsukino.

"Tsukino-kun? I know it's not really my place to say, perhaps--but perhaps you should consider cutting down your shifts in that Izakaya job of yours?"

****************

He'd been damn lucky, Tsukino Uryuu knew, that the LT Net-Uni Juuban Campus had opened up when it did.

It was right near his house, it took almost anybody who had the minimal qualifications and could follow the school rules, and best of all, it was dirt cheap compared to most of the regular private Uni's and even the public ones.

It had taken him a while to convince his parents that it was a bona fide Uni in which one could earn bona fine degrees and such, even if most of the courses were taught by computer programs or something, but once they'd gotten used to the idea, Uryuu knew they'd been quite...relived, to say the least.

It wasn't like he'd ever been an academic powerhouse, to say the least, and considering how the economy was going... It wasn't like either he or Shingo didn't know about Dad's pay cuts, even if they pretended not to. Or why Mum was working "part-time" six days a week...

And since the LT Net-Uni was run by a group which also ran all kinds of business and trade schools, it was really, really easy to get all kinds of business qualifications and such there as well as just the academic ones. Without extra charge for most of them, too!

Dad had laughingly said that it sounded like a business school that gave Uni courses as a bonus or something, which probably wasn't so far from the truth, he supposed. But who cared, an Uni was an Uni.

And the people here were nice, too.

Even though he sometimes wished there were more people his age...

Maybe it was that?

Why he felt so...empty, sometimes?
