It was the utterly hopeful look in her eyes that made him unable to think with whatever the surprise her question had brought up hadn't overwhelmed. "Uh... Well... I honestly don't know..."
"Good reply," Tezuka whispered in the archeologist's ear.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"We aren't sure, but it's thought that outright rejection may cause depression among at least some of the transformed girls. And a few may take it worse than others, especially with their emotions running hard and fast..."
"So, you're saying..."
"The best thing to do is to handle the situation with care, and hope that she's not one of those 'very attached' types," the Japanese man informed him.
"Shades of 'Fatal Attraction' and 'Single White Female'..."
"It hasn't been that bad, but..."
"Better safe then sorry," Jackson agreed, and turned to the girl in question. "Um... Miss... What is your name?"
"Eh? Oh. Tendo," she told him.
"Just 'Tendo'?"
"Kasumi."
"'Tendo'. Okay, Miss Kasumi Tendo? (Are you asking me what I think you are?)"
Kasumi clapped her hands together and smiled. "(You speak Japanese!)"
"(Among other languages. And I should. I'm an archeologist.)"
"(Do you need to speak a lot of languages?)"
"(It helps. Besides, it's part of what made my government want me to work for them.)"
"(I see...)" she murmured, and realized that he was more attractive than she'd thought. Something about him just made her physically aware in ways that she wasn't sure a proper girl should feel, but now she was seeing that her emotions were not moving her astray. He was an intelligent man who, by what he said, was the sort of scholar that even a government would take interest in him. This was not like with Doctor Tofu, who'd have been acting silly and being rather amusing. The physician was a friend, but this man was certainly the one for her. "(What's your name?)"
"(Daniel Jackson.)"
"(I am so glad that we have come together.)"
"What? (You are?)"
"(But of course. I did not think that checking upon what Grandfather Happosai was doing would net this sort of result.)"
"(I'm not sure that I follow... Wait a minute. You know that little guy?)"
"(Oh, yes. He taught my father and Uncle Genma in the martial arts.)" Kasumi helpfully informed him.
"She... she knows... Happosai..."
"She should," Jack put in, and held out the report on the perverted troublemaker. "Your new girlfriend is one of the people he stays with."
"'My new'... What?"
"You heard her."
"Jack..."
"Hey, maybe if we ask nicely, she'll help us get in to do our work."
"And perhaps you will be able to test your theories on 'instinct'," Teal'c commented.
