When Ranma and Genma had appeared, they had had one run in with the law shortly thereafter. (It had, to no one's surprise, involved a company picnic in a park and a large supply of food which had become missing.) It was a complete surprise to Genma that there were legal repercussions to disrupting such an event. It was also a surprise to him that people were upset at the loss of four buckets of fried chicken, five bowls of rice, a plate of biscuits and tureen of gravy going missing.
