Yet, many of those who knew her had trouble connecting her with the office that surrounded her. Far from being the corner office that she might have wanted, this was a small and closed in, if well organized, place. It had the best chairs that she could afford, and faced a desk that she'd managed to get a deal on. The equipment was not the highest tech, but it got the job done, and that was enough for her.
Private investigators didn't make a lot of money, at least ones like her. Sure, she could have been part of a big firm, but then she would have been a junior member, and she'd found that she liked being her own boss. She kept her own hours, could take time off when she needed to, and was able to set the office rules to her own specifications. Of course, checking into the histories of companies' prospective employees, or trailing errant spouses wasn't always the most dignified work, but it paid the bills, and gave her the chance to do one thing that she liked to, and that was to poke around in people's secrets.
However, at the moment, she wasn't exactly working on any case at the moment.
Nabiki tapped her pen against her desk as she scowled over the accounting books of her firm. She looked over the numbers several times in an attempt to discover where her mistake was. Her inability to find it was beginning to grate on her nerves. A portion of her mind told her to let the computer handle it, but she wanted to do it herself first.
Just as she had found her mistake, the buzzer on her line from her assistant sounded.
Nabiki marked the mistake and pressed the intercom button. "Yes, Ryonami? What is it?"
*"I'm sorry to disturb you ma'am, but there's someone here to see you,"* came her old classmate's reply.
"Send the person in." Nabiki responded and took a second to fix her appearance. The door opened and she put away her accounts just in time to see that she had a visit from:
