Relationships would be forged, broken, and twisted by the aftermath, but the horror didn't stop there. Sadly, a mutation in the virus relatively early on, caused by the intense life-energy of martial artists caused the infected to spend much more of their own strength in the act of sex, actually sacrificing their own health to cause a higher chance of conception.
Women had been forced through their cycles faster than normal, leaving many cranky and temporarily emotionally unbalanced. Men often were severely dehydrated, or just completely spent. As a result, life in Japan was about to fall apart, and only slowly limp itself back together over the course of several days.
Aid would come in from afar, of course, but by the time that happened, they'd already be so close to recovery as to make no difference.
In the meantime, however, some time before sunrise, the power went out across most of Japan's power grids. And then almost all of the remaining independent grids. Alarm clocks without battery backups were not functioning; traffic lights were off; police were all waking up groggily and searching for pants and alibis. There was one constant to this, one noise, which echoed across the city, jumping from building to building like an echo that sought another mouth to leap from, changing in function, but not meaning:
"Ohmigod, I can't believe I slept with you!"
In a world with only silence and recrimination (or the occasional squeal of delight), it takes very little to wake someone. Especially in a moment when the atmosphere is so emotionally charged from the long hours of ardor before the ... 'cure'.
And with that, the light of dawn broke upon....
