At the moment though, he was having a small bit of trouble with doing that. Sure, he was sitting at the dinner table, with the paper open in front of him, but his attention kept slipping. It wasn't a really major deal, but it just kept happening.
For the life of him, he couldn't stop going back over the talk that he'd had with his youngest daughter.
Nothing about it seemed to really stand out about it, so he didn't know what his problem was. Of course, it was strange that she was exercising in her room, as she normally did that sort of thing in the dojo, or in something like jogging. Doing workouts in a bedroom was more Nabiki's thing, but he could see her deciding to get in a simple bit of exercise, like some sit ups or pushups. That might explain that creaking sound as well, since the floor could have done so under the force of her workout. And since she would not be able to open the door without stopping, it was understandable that she wouldn't do so.
It was just a bit of oddity on top of a bit of strangeness. He just didn't associate her with hitting his best friend either, and couldn't see Ranma taking charge, but then that could have been exceptions to the usual 'rules'. Nothing had really happened, after all, and he didn't think that they could. So, he shrugged, and put his thoughts back into reading the paper.
However, his old buddy had other ideas, apparently. "Tendo?"
"Yes, Saotome," Soun replied idly.
"Is something the matter? You seem... off."
"Just a little tense, I suppose. And I'm not really getting into the articles, so...."
"I see. Then why don't we get into something else. Like a game of shogi."
"You want to play?"
"Certainly. A game would be great fun for us both."
"It does sound appealing."
"Then let's play," Genma put forth, and stifled a yawn.
"Are you feeling alright?"
"Why wouldn't I be? I'm fine. Just a little tired. Maybe I'll take a nap after our game. That is, if you want to play."
"I do," the other man answered with a smile. With Genma tired, he knew that he could have a better chance of winning, and he didn't want to miss this opportunity. Besides, he hadn't seen anything to worry about. That made it easy for him to move over to the board to join his friend in playing, while:
