Legacy of Seras: Not Quite Alone in the Dark [Episode 145170]

by PsyckoSama

As soon as the wave of vertigo associated with teleportation faded, both Kain and Seras allowed their weight to take over and fell onto their backs. They were both absolutely spent. In the battle with Malek, the bodies had been pushed to and beyond the limit. They were exhausted from both stress and activity, wounded from the furious melee, and starving for want of fresh blood.

Seras sighed in release, letting her dagger loose of her death grip and happily began to stair blankly into space as she limply lay in the center of the dead teleport pad. While usually she had strength surpassing that of any mortal man, at the moment she was so tired that moving was just too much goddamn work. Hell, it was moments like this she was glad she didn't have to breath. Even that was too damn much work.

"We're alive…" she muttered with a contented sigh. "We're actually alive…"

"No, we're undead…" Kain replied, sardonically as he slowly lifted himself to his feet.

"Right… well… we're not ALL dead."

Kain slowly stumbled to his feet and shook his head to clear it.

"And if we remain here, we will be…"

Seras blinked and reluctantly sat up. "Your right… its his fortress and his teleporter. Malek will know where we are and come looking."

Kain nodded and slowly Seras rose to her feet.

"After all of this I just want to go back and sleep for a week."

Kain glanced over, "Yes, I share the sentiment, but I would like to feed first."

Seras nodded, "Okay, but not on innocent people…"

Kain scoffed but said nothing.

Together the they began to walk down the length of the tunnel. It was obviously, especially to Kain, that this was not a natural tunnel, but an entrence corridor designed for when Malek's bastion housed the living.

It seemed to be designed to look natural, but vampiric eyes could see through the darkness the facade depended upon and see the most unnatural defenses. Murder holes in the ceiling, arrow slits in the walls… the twists and bends of the corridor were obviously meant to prevent charges, and looking closely she could see what seemed to be iron porticus set into the ceiling. Yes, this tunnel was a fortress of its own right, but its secret likely lay in its ambiguity. Let the defenders give their lives to hold off the enemies as long as possible so once the invader has murdered their way past thier opponents, all they earn as a reward is a dead teleportation pad.

Kain scoffed. He would not be surprised if there were mystical explosives set into the ceiling. Let their reward for victory be a lingering death underneath the soil of Nosgoth. How utterly brilliant.

"Kain," Seras stated, snapping him out of his near trance. "Look at that."

Kain looked to where Seras was pointing. On the ground before them there was another dead guard. All that remained was fragments of bone and mail so reply rusted that a touch could cause to disintegrate.

He smiled slightly. "I see this area is not as singular in its elements as the bastion."

His eyes narrowed for a moment as he saw the glitter of metal in the dim light. He reached down into the pile of bones and debris and lifted pair of axes off of the body. While the body that held them was in a most advanced state of decay, the axes looked as fine as fine as the day they had been made.

"Havoc… and Malice" Kain stated with a grin as he read the Old Nosgothian script.

"Nice," Seras replied, "now lets get out of here…"

Kain smirked and the two continued to the entrance at first, they just thought that the bright light has made their eyes sensitive but as the grew closers, they sat that it was not light, but rather, they were in the midst of a blizzard.

"Seras," Kain remarked with a sardonic ting in his voice, "Maybe it would be prudent to rest for the winter season…"
