"Yes, she was a mess, wasn't she?" said Zed.
Jiro nodded at Zed's words. While Jiro was a family man and an overseer, Zed was a professional technician and a eunuch. More to the point, Zed was a mindwiped slave. A criminal who had been sentenced to personality reduction and retraining after becoming a eunuch.
That meant, most likely, that Zed had been a sex offender of some kind. Not that he had any interest in sex nowadays. Zed was completely professional and completely focussed on each individual job.
Jiro knew this about Zed. Jiro thought it likely that Zed would back him up if he did anything strange to the girl, simply because Zed would be curious and trying to learn more about the equipment by doing something off the usual patterns. Zed was usually the one to suggest "pushing the envelope" and try new approaches.
"We've gotten past Barrier Level One and Two," Zed was saying. "We're working on some of the more troubling aspects of this dominant persona."
"Schizophrenic?" asked Jiro as he looked over the paperwork, his own professionalism taking over. "Dominant persona is... this can't be right?"
"Chemical imbalance," agreed Zed. "Makes our work easier as the brain chemicals are already so screwed up."
"Let's take her ego down to minus eight," said Jiro.
Zed blinked and turned towards his overseer. "'Minus eight'? We're not going to run the preselected program?"
"Well," said Jiro, shrugging as if it were no concern to him, "you see the instructions here that her brother left with. Those outfits. Obvious what her brother wanted from those selections, isn't it?"
"Yeah, I suppose," said Zed, interest beginning to show on the rotund man's face.
"And these self-destructive tendencies have got to be dealt with, don't they?" pressed Jiro.
"Yeah," said a much more enthusiastic Zed. "We'll fix her right up."
"How did I get THAT?!" asked Akane.
"You're really bad at Jan Ken Pon?" asked Nabiki.
"Oh dear, oh my," said Kasumi. "I really wanted that one."
Nabiki and Akane stared at Kasumi briefly before deciding they couldn't have heard that.
