"Uh... before we go on," Akane said, "could you explain what exactly is going on? Possible Ascension? Labors? And who you are, anyway?"
The man blinked a couple times before sighing. "Oh, dear me, I forgot that you were actually on your first time through here." He cleared his throat, and was suddenly holding a silver-tipped cane. "I am know as Scratch, ex-demon first class of Combat and Slaughter, who through various circumstances find myself no longer demonic and working with this," he waved his cane around to indicate the others in the building, "fine group misfits and underdogs, trying to make the multiverse a better place on a limited budget."
Akane blinked. There was no real response for that...
Scratch continued. "You, despite all the odds against it, have been chosen to undergo some tests... known as Labors around these parts... to see if you are worthy and able to be ascended. That is, to be turned into an Angel, or Goddess, or some other being of power. In the meantime, though, you have been regulated to this office, so we'll be doing what we can to prepare you for what's going to happen."
Akane blinked again, somewhat overwhelmed. "Ahh... okay."
Scratch nodded. "I know, it's a lot to take in at one time. Now, before we can begin, though, you need a new body."
Akane nodded. "What were the choices again?"
"Well, my dear, we can make you a Tigergirl, A cyborg, an emulation of your original body, or something more exotic, if you wish it."
