The second day of infections had seen his army swelling. From Akane Tendo, his first recruit, he had gained her two sisters, her two friends, two of her rivals, and several chance encounters. Each of those had gone out and recruited others to his cause.
Now there were several others and of several nationalities. At this rate, by the fourth day he'd simply call in sick from work and never return to that place of tortured drudgework. No longer have to put up with the slights given him due to his mixed heritage.
With the enhanced intellect that his second stage converts possessed, they were further refining and developing the process. They were working out strategies and working their way into areas of control. Already he had made inroads to several of the local news agencies, two area hospitals, and several businesses in the area. Those businesses which catered to young girls were especially useful as the "special product in back" ploy made them ideal for choice infections. Flight attendents and tourists had begun the spread internationally a few hours previously.
Beauty parlors, manicurists, and clothing stores had been assigned a high priority and were apparently doing quite a good business at this point.
According to this report, the Saint Hebereke Rhythmic Gymnastics Team was already at work spreading the infection through their school. Tomorrow would see the spread through the area schools limited only by the need for subterfuge. When that had passed he could see an explosive growth in numbers.
Doctor Moreau smiled, took a lighter out, and burned the note. Carelessness was his enemy at the moment. He was close to gaining everything he wanted, so he would be even more cautious. Patience was difficult under the circumstances, yet he had to exercise iron self-control or chance losing it all.
Ranma finished cooking, frowning at the mound of stir fry freshly prepared.
There was something wrong. Something going on. If he could just figure out what it was.
