Gundam Seed - After War: Breather [Episode 146986]

by Yasanagi

As Edward Harrelson stepped foot on Morgenroete's property with Eight secured in his hands, he noticed a large amount of mobile suit parts lying around Orb territory from the battle that had taken place earlier. They were mostly ZAFT type mobile suit parts like a DINN head and a leftover leg part from a GINN. Various crews from Morgenroete were out cleaning up the mess. 'What the hell happened here?' He decided to ask his fellow hijackers from the previous mission what happened since they left for Orb earlier than he did. The weather conditions had caused him to arrive about an hour and fifteen minutes after Jane, Lowe and Kou arrived at Orb.

After he walked through the front doors, he headed towards the cafeteria inside Morgenroete since that was where they all promised to meet up after the mission is completed successfully. The cafeteria's dining area is standard sized and could seat up to 100 people. Other than tables and chairs for eating, it had two vending machines and a large colour television at the front. Near the cafeteria entrance on the left was where the kitchen was located for people to order a hot lunch or grab a snack when entering the cafeteria. When he entered, he saw Kou sitting on a chair with a blanket wrapped around him and a mug of hot cocoa in his hands. In front of him was a fresh, untouched personal meat lovers pizza. Cagalli sat on his left side in another chair and placed her right hand on his left leg as an act of reassurance. Kisato was being emotional from Lowe risking his ass earlier and called him an idiot while crying. Lowe looked to Liam for help but the Coordinator simply gave him a look that read 'You're on your own, buddy'.

"Edward! About time you got here!" Jane came up to him and gave him a brief kiss on the lips.

He returned the smile before speaking. "I can see a lot of ZAFT mobile suit remains out there. You guys must have had quite an interesting time taking those units down."

"We hardly did jack to their numbers, Ed. Kou got at least half the enemy suits," replied Lowe. Edward looked surprised and glanced at the tired young Coordinator.

"That goofy mobile suit nut took out at least half the enemy? You're not pulling my leg, are you?" Lowe didn't give any indication that he was joking to the Natural ace pilot. Edward decided to give the kid some space and felt his stomach growl. "Looks like I built up an appetite from this morning's mission."

"And you'll be happy to know that this place has hamburgers and banana splits," said Jane in a playful tone. Edward lit up and handed Eight over to Lowe before heading inside to place his order. "I swear, you're such a child!"

Edward poked his head out. "Indulging the inner child once in a while is perfectly healthy! Otherwise, you could end up as a major cold fish!" The others started to feel their moods improve with the amusing moment unfolding in front of them. Kisato noticed the current week's TV guide sitting on a small stand underneath the large TV and started to look through it.

The moment was interrupted when a man wearing an Orb military uniform entered the cafeteria and gave a brief salute to Cagalli. "Here's the damage report you requested, Representative Athha." He handed her a small stack of papers that were in his hands.

She took the papers and started going through them. "Thank you...um...?"

"Lieutenant Colonel Soga will suffice, madam."

Cagalli nodded once. "Thank you, Soga. Please keep me posted as more developments arise." Soga saluted again before making a clean exit out of the cafeteria. "No damage to the Kusanagi but the facilities will have to undergo repairs from the latest attack. That means the Kusanagi's departure will be delayed for four days."

"That's a bummer," said Edward as he carried a plate with two burgers in one hand and an ice cream bowl with a banana split in it. He sat down in another chair, placed his food down and began to devour his first hamburger.

Kisato let out a squeal. "Ooh! There's a George Glenn documentary that'll be starting in a few minutes! And I'm referring to the real George Glenn!! Not the one on our ship!!" The girl then reached up to turn on the television.

"That reminds me. How are things going back at the Re.H.O.M.E?" asked Liam.

"I'm sure they're doing just fine," assured Lowe.

**********

"How about this one? What do you get when you cross a rooster and a duck? A bird that gets up at the quack of dawn! Get it? Okay, how about this one? Why did Beethoven get rid of his chickens? Because they kept saying 'Bach, Bach, Bach'! Wait! This one will make you laugh for sure! Where does a penguin keep his money? A snow bank! Get it!" As the holographic George Glenn continued to crack one corny joke after the other, Canard Pars, the pilot of the YMF-X000A/H Dreadnought H Gundam and a failed prototype of the same "Ultimate Coordinator" project that produced Kira Yamato, repeatedly banged his head against his console in an attempt to block out the hologram's horrible jokes.
