Lab Days - Bishieman: It Isn't Roswell.... [Episode 147438]

by Kender

It was a tense time for Carter as she waited for some sign of what had happened to her commanding officer. His very life was riding on this, and provided that it actually worked, then he'd be back to normal, or what passed for it now that he'd been transformed. However, there was a very real possibility that he'd find nothing, and in that case, he might not be able to even give them a sign of that. In that case, he could be forever lost, without them ever knowing exactly what happened to him, unless they got another device in time.

But when the Gate activated once more, and she knew that she'd hear those certain words, she gave a sigh of relief.

"Off world activation," Harriman dutifully reported.

"Now we get to see if it worked," she murmured.

Hammond gave her a knowing smile. "I have a feeling that it has."

"I hope so, sir."

Just then, a rather frazzled, but more relaxed, Jack O'Neill came through the gate and looked around himself. He seemed to take comfort in where he was, and leaned his palms on his knees to rest for a moment. At that moment, he looked up, and smiled at those up in the control room, sending them running down to meet him in the Gate room.

But then something surprising happened, as several short gray figures stepped through the Gate after him.

Upon seeing guns being raised, Jack shot straight up and held his hands in a stopping motion. "Hold your fire! They're friendly!"

"Colonel, what's going on?" General Hammond asked.

"It's simple, sir. When I went through, they were good hosts and helped me out. But when they realized what'd happened to me, they were... concerned."

"About the Ancient knowledge?"

"Nope. That impressed them. Kind of feel good about that, myself. But what really tweaked their noses, or would, if they had them, was the fact that I'm an Elf."

"Indeed," commented one of the Asgard. "While the fact that Colonel O'Neill was even able to hold the knowledge of the Ancients at all speaks well of your race's potential, the fact that this sort of transformation happened is worrisome."

Another Asgard put a hand out, palm up. "Somehow, your race has been altered on a level that you should not be able to reach, and in a most haphazard way. There is both the possibility of it mutating further, or, at worse, causing harm to those infected with it."

"Then what do you propose?" Hammond asked.

"We shall work on this concern. Our race has a great deal of knowledge in genetic alterations, and other sciences. We would like to investigate these... manipulations, and assist you in handling this difficulty."

"You would?"

"Of course. Such fool hardy behavior as this blanket manipulation of the genome is something that makes us... concerned. And we can see much in the way of benefits in working on this now, rather than later."

"As would we," the General agreed.

"Don't do things by halves, huh, sir?" Carter asked O'Neill.

"Of course not. No fun to do it otherwise," Jack said with a grin, while:
