Upon hearing her words, he could only stop and stare. Akane, who he knew was not a liar, was actually suggesting that she had picked him as her 'special person'. That meant that there was something major, and he wasn't certain how he should take it. There wasn't exactly the sort of situation that came up usually, since girls could say a lot of things before, but now if they asked about this sort of thing, it was clear that they were completely serious.
"Gah...." he said as about intelligently as he could manage at the moment.
Her expression turned pained. "Is that all that you can say?"
"Uhh.... Yeah."
"Why...."
"This.... Wow. I mean.... Cool...."
"What?"
"I... I...." he stammered, trying to get words out, but unsure of how to do so. As a result, he wasn't certain what he was saying. "I didn't expect ya ta actually say it."
"You mean that?"
"Well.... Why would ya pick someone like me?"
Opening her mouth to give an explanation, Akane found that she actually had nothing to really tell him. She couldn't say why she'd made the choice when she wasn't sure why she'd done it herself. There wasn't any real thought put into it, as it had come up almost like she was comprehending a truth that she'd already known. The physical attraction that she felt for him was only one part of it, but she was certain that there had to be more to it. Of course, even she'd be surprised to find out that she was right. One's feelings had a lot to do with it, and not all of them had to be romantic. Had she been asked to explain the methodology, she wouldn't be able to, but as it was, she didn't need to.
She merely told him the only thing that she could. "It just felt right."
"It did?" he asked.
"It sure did. I didn't ask for it, but I'm not about to ignore it. I'm drawn to you in ways that I hadn't really considered before, and even when we're not together, I feel it."
"Ohh...."
"But I bet that you're going to be trying to pick out one of your other girls to be with, aren't you?"
"why would I do somethin' like that?"
"Because you want to pick one of them, don't you?"
"How? I thought that it was the girl that chose," he replied, rubbing the back of his head in a show of confusion.
"They do, but...."
"Then who am I ta pick a fight over your choice. 'Sides, ya picked the best guy, didn't ya?"
"At least we don't have to worry about your ego."
"Hey, it's best as far as I can see."
"Says you. Then what are you going to do about me then?"
"Well, you're my fiancee, and now that ya've picked me ta be your special one, I have double the reason ta keep ya with me. Ain't nobody gonna take ya away."
As the words registered, Akane gave him one of her bright and cute smiles and he blushed. The relaxation that she felt certainly wasn't feigned, as she knew that this part was over, and now she could have a clear idea of what could come next. Since she had a solid base to work with, she was certain that she could handle it, while:
