Coupled Union - Racing Hearts: On The Mark [Episode 147795]

*"Well then,"* Nabiki said with a chuckle, *my work is done for the moment."*

Haruka raised a brow, even though she knew that the other girl couldn't see her. "Oh, really?"

*"But, of course. I've alerted you, and now you can prepare for your hubby's imminent return. Of course, the chance to be able to leave you speechless was a bonus."*

"Ha ha."

*"It's amusing, I know. But we don't know the situation beyond that, so we can't work out plans."*

"He's going to your house. I can get there and meet him. How hard is that?"

*"With his dad and mine trying to interfere?"* the other girl reminded her.

"Damn. You're right about that."

*"Think of it this way. Once we're able to get a handle on the situation here, we'll be able to help you with yours. Then we can either have you come here, or get him to meet up with him."*

"And what am I supposed to do until then?" the racer asked in a tone that said that she knew the answer.

*"Use the time to prepare? I know that you'll want to be certain that you'll have a good reunion with him."

"You know something? I hate it when you're right."

*"But it's good that it happens from time to time. Still, I'm certain that you can handle it without me holding your hand."*

"I can handle it."

*"Good to hear. I'll see you later then,"* Nabiki told her.

"Bye," Haruka answered, and hung up the phone as soon as she heard the dial tone. That left her with only her own thoughts, and they were only on one topic. Her husband was returning, and that meant that she'd have to rush to prepare for his arrival, no matter what was going on.

If she knew her father in law, and she did, he'd have Ranma and himself travelling by foot, which wasn't too illogical, given that they could have taken a train, would have to walk from the station. But Genma would likely do it because of his own cheapness, since he didn't like to spend money on things that he didn't see any reason for. Usually, they were items that anyone with a functioning brain would realize were of great use, but Genma liked to use money to enjoy himself, and tended to use any excuse that he could get to spend it.

Unfortunately, to be Ranma's wife meant that she had to put up with that as a father in law, and so she had to handle it as best that she could.

However, that did give her an idea of their travel situation, and she knew that they'd probably be running through the streets until they reached the Tendo home. Genma would likely think that whatever he was planning was coming to fruition, but she knew her husband very well. He liked the Tendo sisters, and was friends with them, so he wouldn't mind going to their place. And since they were friends with her, he'd have an extra reason to go see them. All of which meant that her father in law wouldn't know that he'd be bringing her husband to where he would actually have help.

It was good to have friends, and this was one of the reasons why. She chuckled as she considered this situation, and knew that she would love to see the look on Genma's face when he would realize that something was up. At the moment though, she had more pressing matters, as she knew that, even by foot, her husband and his father were fast, and would likely be coming any time now. That didn't give her a lot of time to prepare, and so she had to get a move on.

"Looking thoughtful there," commented a dry voice.

Turning to look at the source, Haruka gave a little smile. "Elza Gray. Come to bother me?"

"Not really," the other track star replied with a shrug.

"Oh?"

"Just came to say 'hi'. When I stopped by, one of your teammates told me that you were on the phone, so I came here. Anything up?"

"Nothing.... Well, actually a lot," the blonde replied, running a hand through her hair. "Ranma is coming back."

"The guy with the fit body and the pigtail who used to hang around with you all the time?"

"You remembered that?"

"How could I not? The two of you were the 'Dynamic Duo' of cool. He was the tough fighter that no one could touch, and you were the cool runner that even I couldn't catch."

"Then it should make you happy that he's returning. His dad took him off on some stupid 'training trip', and just heading back."

Elza gave a nod of satisfaction. "Maybe then you'll finally relax again."

"Huh?"

"You alway relax when he's around. Don't ask me for particulars, but you just seem... happier when he's with you."

The blonde racer colored. "It's just that he's easy to be around, even if he can be thick and headstrong sometimes."

"A lot like someone else I know."

"Elza...."

"Hey, remember that he's coming. It'll be good to have him around. He's good for you."

"Elza?"

Turning to walk away, the redhead looked over her shoulder and smiled. "It's always good to have something to run to, instead of going nowhere."

"I.... Thanks."

"No problem. Until later."

"See you," Haruka responded, and watched the girl walk away. There was something special about her fellow track star, and she knew that she was lucky to have such a friendly rival. Some girls might have grown frustrated with not having caught up with her, but Elza had always treated her well. She was even someone who would help other competitors off the track, and not in simply running techniques.

She was right though, as she had someone to get to soon. And that meant that she had to take a shower. Ranma might not mind seeing her not be at her best, but she was hot and sweaty, and she needed to get her body cleaned off. It wouldn't do to have a reunion with him looking like she'd just come off the track.

So, she grabbed her towel, and headed off towards the showers while:
