Slayers Restrike: On the Road to Atlas [Episode 148387]

by Disruptor

As Lina took some side trips to make sure she would arrive at Atlas on time, she started hearing stories about the president of the Sorcerer's Guild in Atlas vanishing.

'Halcyform? I thought he was chased out of Atlas by the city council. He came back later to cause all those problems,' Lina thought. 'Something is really wrong here.'

Lina checked out the libraries in the towns she and Gourry stopped in. Instead of hunting for magic information, she looked up the histories of various regions. There were some major discrepancies between her more predominant memories and what she was reading.

'I need to know what's going on. Hopefully the complete Claire Bible manuscript is still there, but I have my doubts,' Lina thought. 'I might have to after the real Claire Bible.'

Lina sighed and look back in the direction that she knew Rezo was at. A burning sensation formed in her stomach as she and Gourry headed for Atlas.

'I have the very bad feeling that things will start happening when I reach Atlas.'

In the village Lina sold most of her items, Zelgadis and his followers had finished questioning the various people and storeowners. Zolf still wrapped up in mummy bandages was seething a bit.

"That little witch just left like that? That makes no sense," Zolf said.

"I'm more interested in why the villagers said that Lina Inverse kept looking up at the sky," Zelgadis said. "It caused everyone in this village some nervousness. She was expecting something that didn't happen apparently. My guess is that since whatever she was waiting for didn't show, she cast a Protection spell on the statue. She might be hiding from her sidekick again or we have an unknown fourth player in the game."

Zolf asked, "Do you think that she knows?"

"I doubt it," Zelgadis said with a shrug. "She's probably studying the effects of orihalcum and wants a sample to work with. I'm also guessing that Lina Inverse is just hiding from Naga the White Serpent once more. Meaning, it's going to be a pain tracking her down. I do wonder if her laugh is as bad as the stories make it out to be."

"We're going to have to get to her before she finds the stone," Zolf stated.

"Agreed. The only place she could go to get information on orihalcum that is close by is the Sorcerer's Guild in Atlas City. We'll head there and wait," Zelgadis said.

Rodimus asked, "And what if there is an unknown fourth player?"

"Then we have problems."

A heavy thumping and jangling signaled the arrival of Rezo. "Be prepared for a fourth player just in case. Lina Inverse? I have heard the stories about her. I do agree with you Zelgadis that Lina is probably hiding from Naga once more and just wants to research orihalcum. She is heading for Atlas in a roundabout way by taking side-trips and backtracking. I stopped in two towns before teleporting here and found that Lina was in those towns and looking through the libraries before moving on. The confusion over Halcyform the White's disappearance will hinder Lina's research and help us by delaying her."

Zelgadis hid his anger with Rezo and nodded.

"Force Lina to leave the city or be subtle in trying to get the statue back. Under no circumstances bring attention to the statue. We don't want Tarim and Daymia to get interested in it. Tarim might be prideful and Daymia a bit unstable, but they didn't get their colors for incompetence. I'd rather wait a month, instead of taking a chance that the statue will be lost to the Sorcerer's Guild."

Zelgadis nodded once more and left with Zolf and Rodimus.
