Nabiki turned to give him a flat look. "How do you 'work up' anything when you're unconscious?"
"You can do a lot when you're sleeping. Why do you think that you wake up hungry after slumbering in your bed?"
"It could be due to not having eaten for something on the order of twelve hours. Or how you simply digest your food no matter what you do."
"Well, as a martial artist, I've trained myself to make the most out of anything, including sleep."
"Which is why you do it so much," she muttered.
"Of course! A man of my skill level can needs his rest, and can push himself to maximize things like that."
"Is that so?"
"Don't you know it."
It looked almost like Nabiki was about to say something else, but Ranma shook his head. "Don't bother with arguing with him. He's always been like this. I mean, he's the only person who can claim work up an appetite working on a puzzle."
"Perhaps it was something difficult to figure out," Kasumi suggested kindly.
"I didn't think so, and neither did the five year old who gave it to me to play with when I was a kid."
"There was more to it than that!" his father barked. "I was trying to do it without a single problem coming up!"
"Never said that you didn't. You just said that you were hungry after doing it."
"Humph. I had been training you before that."
Ranma chuckled a bit as he considered his father's immaturity. Now that he had Nabiki's level head, and Kasumi's calm nature affecting him, he could keep his cool better, and was able to recognize that his father was rather foolish. Since there hadn't been any insults or attacks sent his way, he didn't feel like fighting back, and doing so actually felt rather good. In fact, leaving his father at a bit of a loss for words made him realize that he could fight in other ways, and he knew where that had come from.
Looking over at Nabiki, she saw that she looked pleased by what he had managed, and she sat up a bit straighter. That also made her chest jiggle a bit, and he could also feel himself responding to the way that she was unintentionally jutting them out for his perusal.
Shaking himself a bit, he looked over at Akane, and saw her raise her brows at him. With his best look of 'helplessness', he let her know that he didn't have a choice in appreciating her sister's charms. Her answering expression told him that she was wondering why he would think that she would mind, and that he should be doing all the looking at Nabiki that he wanted. However, she did take pity on him, and didn't stop him from looking in her direction. She started to eat again, and pressed her lips together every time that she took a bite of food. Unfortunately, that made him realize how kissable they were, as well as other... 'uses' that her mouth could be put to.
Swallowing hard, he held out his glass to Kasumi, and nodded as she held up a pitcher. Smiling softly, she poured some of the liquid inside of into the glass, and watched as he drank it down his now dry throat. When he was doing that, he looked back at her, and caught her eyes with his. Doing so allowed him to see that she was actually eager to serve him, though one would have to have some idea of what was going on to realize that much. And when he saw the wistful expression in her eyes, he knew exactly what she might want and be imagining.
He'd never thought that he'd ever find eating dinner to be starting erotic, but apparently it was proving to be so.
Choking a bit on his drink, he put down the glass, and accepted his father's actually helpful slaps on the back as he tried to breathe.
"Are you alright son," Soun asked.
Ranma waved off his concern. "I'm fine. Something just went down the wrong pipe."
"Are you certain? You did look a bit tense before that."
"Oh?"
"Almost like you were feeling ill."
"Well... I am a little uncomfortable."
"You are?"
"Something like that. Somewhat stiff, and... well, having a bit of trouble breathing."
"One of those twenty four hour bugs, eh?"
"I'd say that it'd have to be longer for me."
"True, to get him feverish," the middle Tendo daughter commented dryly, "it'd have to have the force of three... 'sources'."
"Nabiki! He's... possibly sick," Akane admonished.
"Possibly, but given some care...."
"My boy's always been healthy as a horse!" Genma interrupted.
"No thanks to you."
"What was that?"
"Nothing. But, in any case, don't you want to keep him well?"
"He's my heir," the Saotome patriarch replied, as if that answered everything.
"I'll help to take care of him, if he wishes," Kasumi put in.
Her words made Nabiki raise a brow at her. "You'd do that?"
"Of course. It would be a pleasure to do so. Making certain that he's well taken care of would only be right, wouldn't it?"
"Ah... yes."
"Would you like that... Ranma?"
The named boy frowned in confusion for a moment, before smiling and shrugging. "Sure. I guess a bit of care before bedtime would be okay."
"Then, I will be around if you need me."
"I know. Trust me, I know."
Both fathers looked at each other, and wondered if they were missing something, while:
