For her own part, Ami's thoughts and feelings were a muddle, a whirl, a tangle of contradictions. She wanted to be back on the spike, at her master's non-existent mercy, and she wanted never to see it again. She wanted to run from Jadeite, she wanted to kiss his feet, she wanted to drag him off to bed or be dragged off. Her confusion showed in her face, blank save for her eyes, and he put a hand on her shoulder lightly, guiding her over to the table that stood in the centre of the chamber.
Beryl gave her a weary, gentle smile, "It's almost over, Ami. Just lay down, and leave the rest to us." The girl did as instructed, not knowing what else to do, and Jadeite took his place at the head of the table, placing his fingertips over Ami's eyes, temples, ears, and mouth. Beryl and Zoicite each rested a hand on Jadeite's shoulder, and laid the other lightly on Ami's breast, making the girl blush. Finally, Nephrite and Malachite laid their hands on Beryl and Zoicite's shoulders and Ami's sex, and the rite began.
The five began the chant as the power Beryl had held flowed through them, and into Ami. The main flow went through Jadeite, and even Ami could feel it faintly, a chill sweeping through her soul. "Power calls to power," he intoned, "need calls to need. Suffering demands its due, ancient wrongs cry for righting. Let the power within reach for the power without. Let this innocent know her birthright, and let it shield her from ancient evil. By my will," he declaimed in thunder, "so mote it be!" And with that, Ami felt an arctic sweeping through her soul, freezing cold but at the same time comforting and comfortable. It wrapped around her soul, seeped through it, and a deeper, more penetrating cold howled outward in reply, flowing through her entire being, chilling her pleasantly before it wrapped her soul in ice, freezing it solid. Yet her mind and heart were not frozen, and she cried out in bliss, then from ancient knowledge come again, she screamed out in joy.
"MERCURY POWER!"
