Genma gave a deep nod. "It is. To think that my son would be so willing to do his familial duty."
"And it does my heart proud to know that my dear daughter has proven herself so honorable...."
"We raised them well, didn't we?"
"Too true, Saotome. And now, our skill in handling the situation has proven to be even better than we expected."
"Of course," the portly man replied. "After all, we should be the ones who know how to handle our children. And I think that they know that we know what is best for them."
"We did manage to do this with great ease, didn't we?"
"Of course we did. We're just too wise for any other outcome to happen!"
"You're right about that, old friend," the tall man replied.
"But you do realize what this means, right?"
"Certainly! I only wish that my darling wife could have been here for this day!"
"I'm certain that she's smiling over her child in spirit, Tendo. However, we have more earthly successes to be considering. It won't do it by itself."
"We will have to do it ourselves, won't we?"
"I'm certain of that."
"The iron is hot, and there is no better time to do it," Genma intoned, standing tall, and posing like some patriotic poster.
"Everything will have to be perfect."
"And as complete as possible."
"We are too close to fail."
"We'll have to plan it out as well as we can, so that we can get what we want."
"But, of course, old friend."
"Traditional is good," Soun commented. "But western does have its appeal."
"Civic would work."
"I can't have my baby married without some show of dignity."
"We could do a simple legal one, to get the technicalities out of the way, and get on to the one with pomp and circumstance at our leisure."
"That could work. Though I want to have a big party after both."
"Absolutely."
"Excuse me, but what are are you talking about?" Akane asked.
"Why, your sister's wedding to my son," Genma replied. "We're going to plan it out, and have it as soon as we can."
"EH?!" went all the teens.
"What? We are simply going to make certain that everything is taken care of properly."
"Don't ya think that Nabiki might wanna have some say in it, old man?!" Ranma barked, glaring right at his father.
"She would?"
"I would think so, considerin' the weddin' is supposed ta be a 'girl' thing. It'd be part of what she'd want, and you're tryin' ta arrange it for her!"
"I arranged for her to meet her husband, didn't I?" his father replied.
"That's besides the point."
"Ranma is right. It is entirely improper to be rushing into things like this," Kasumi admonished both men. "There are rules to these sorts of situations, and it would be only right to follow them."
Her father winced a little. "Now, Kasumi...."
"Father? Do you think that it is right to deprive Nabiki of the pleasure that this could give her, simply to rush into something. And consider how it could be ruined if things are done too fast."
"Oh...."
"Besides, it's not like anyone's expecting anything to change what's going on," Akane put in.
"You're not?"
"Why would I complain about this set up?"
"In any case, I think that I have a way to handle this for all of us," Nabiki said, holding up a palm to stop the discussion.
"Why would you have to come up with something like that?" asked Genma.
"Because it's my wedding that you're discussing, and I'd prefer it if you didn't botch things up simply because you're going to shove what you want on us."
"You... do?"
"Sure. Now, how about doing things this way? You two can go and plan your little hearts out, and Ranma and I'll see if we want to do it that way."
The Saotome Patriarch puffed up his chest. "And if we don't?"
"Ranma and I can move away to live together in some other area. Between us, we can find some way to get by. Of course, if we do, then maybe we can go to a place that might be fun. China perhaps, or America."
"No! Don't do that!" Soun yelped, clearly panicking.
"Don't worry, Daddy. I'm not planning on going anywhere. Just, relax with the planning, okay?"
"If that's what you want."
"It is. Thank you, Daddy," Nabiki murmured, and leaned over to give him a peck on the cheek.
"We'll just make lists then, and celebrate the engagement," her father said, looking pleased by her show of affection. "We can do that, can't we, Saotome?"
"Of course, Tendo," Genma responded, looking rather put out over not getting to the wedding immediately, but having enough to satisify him for the moment.
"Let's go then."
"'Go'? Where?"
"I've got some sake in a cabinet that's just calling to be drunk in celebration."
"Now that's my idea of a good choice!"
Watching the two fathers move away, Akane sighed. "Your father is an idiot, Ranma."
"Don't I know it," the pigtailed boy grumped, but quickly forgot his bad mood as his wife wrapped her arms around one of his and leaned against him.
Kasumi smiled, and went to get their celebratory drinks, while:
