Anime 40,000: A Cold War [Episode 153186]

by Lask

Ami swore quietly under her breath. The transport that had brought her in was slowly maneuvering to join up with the command vessel that was coordinating the troops effort from the air. Of course, from that distance, they couldn't always provide the best tactical support, but Ami was sure that they felt any number of Guard regiments were less valuable then their own lives.

The arrogance of Command wasn't what she was cursing, however. Rather it was the interesting space battle that was developing. The Eldar had evidently taken a dislike to the human occupation of Darwinus. She wondered if their displeasure was recent, or had been hidden by the Planetary Lord had hidden something from them. On the last planet she had been on, the lord was a true incompetent, and she almost sympathized with the rebels… almost, for nothing could justify going against the will of the Emperor God of Mankind. Still, she wouldn’t assume incompetence.

A chirp in her ear was her only warning before the small communicator logged like a hearing aid turned itself on. “This is Commander Safiiru, to Ami Mizuno, do you read me?”

Ami tapped her ear to tell it to transmit, then “Yes sir. Ami Mizuno reporting for duty, sir.”

“Good. You’ve been reassigned from your previous unit into a new unit of Storm Troopers. Your orders are to go to the desert area on the southeast continent, study the situation, and assume field command of the units in that region stranded by the recent bombardment. The Sisters of Battle has also lost handful of agent there when one of their ships was shot down, and in the spirit of cooperation the Ecclesiarchy has given us several code word to allow you to assume command of them until their able to form a line of communication themselves.”

Wonderful, a bunch of those Maniacs so green they would trust the Guard to command them… Ami kept that thought to herself as she went over the assignment. It wasn’t unusual for her. Three year ago her planet of birth, Argos III, had been overrun by Orks. Outnumbered by nearly three to one, it was merely a matter of time before the planet feel in its entirety. When her family was being evacuated, she found time to give advice to the unit commander protecting them, and for some reason he listened to her. Three months latter, the Green Plague no longer troubled Argos III. She was informed that the Imperial Guard would like her to join. Sense then, she hadn’t served with any give regiment any longer then it took to win whichever war she was in at the time.

She was thirteen at the time.

She supposed that it was unusual that she hadn’t been recruited to the Departmento Munitorium, but she didn’t want to be separated from the front lines. She might hate fighting, something strange for someone so talented in the theoretical aspect of it (if somewhat lacking in the Physical, she was short and slight, and while her aim was good, she wasn’t fast), but to send men to die and not walk beside them…

“I understand Commander Safiiru. Ami out.”
