Ranma stared at his mother, as though he thought she should be committed. "Uh, mom," he started, trying to stay calm, "doncha think the girls would be a little, um, upset if you suggested that?"
"Well," she replied, "Kodachi and Shampoo agreed readily enough. I still need to talk to Akane and Ukyou, though, before we make a general announcement."
Rather than thinking about the carnage that this would create (inflicted on him, of course), Ranma decided to focus on an even more pressing concern, especially given the nature of the competition. "Uh, mom, about that powder Nabiki mentioned?"
"Yes, Ranma?" she asked.
"I think she's thinkin' of the Instant Jusenkyou Powder, so that any boys could pass yer inspection," he said.
"Oh," said his mother, "don't worry about that, one of the tournament rules forbids the use of magic, drugs, or other tricks to alter a candidate's performance, or your judgement of it. Elder Cologne even swore an oath to uphold that rule, and to fairly enforce it. She'll be helping me to inspect the girls. I do need to have a talk with Nabiki, though. She really should know better."
"Um, okay," said Ranma, reluctantly. He could have questioned Cologne's motivation, but he was pretty sure she figured that Shampoo had a strong enough chance to make 'officially recognized mistress' (shudder), and really didn't care how the Japanese saw her, as she was already his wife by their own crazy laws.
"Now, my son, would you like to have two rounds, one as a boy, and the other as a girl, or would you prefer to just be with each girl once, and switch genders during her turn?" asked his mother.
"SAY WHAT?!"
