Nabiki sighed softly as she put the phone down. If there was
anything she hated to do, it was force the issue of debt repayment.
However, she had a lot of people who owed her money, and there was a
definite need for it now.
“Let's see, that should be...
780,000 yen,” she said. “Not exactly a windfall, but
certainly enough until I figure out a steady source of income.”
That would be the hard part. It would take a while before a new
crop of students filled the dojo and became a viable source of
income.
Of course, there were options in the meantime. Nabiki picked up the phone book that sat next to her on the bed. Picking it up, she started flipping through the pages, examining all the options.
There were things that she rejected outright, of course.
Who the hell advertises being a fucking lab rat in a phone book? Nabiki thought to herself as she looked through the pages.
Of course, there were also a lot of things that she could do, so she would have to choose carefully.
After whittling down the various choices laid out in the phone book, she had a list of three. None of which were quite up to her level of intelligence, but whichever one she chose would be most willing to accept someone barely out of high school, as well as giving her enough money to keep things moving until Ranma got the dojo moving again.
And who knows? Nabiki thought. I might end up finding even better money making opportunities!

Soun and Genma both headed home for the night, Akane in tow behind them. The three of them were haggard and tired, dark bags over their eyes, cheeks stained with tears. Surely a night's sleep in their house and a good bath would help them straighten out at least a little bit. The three walked through the neighborhood, neither looking at one another, just staring at the sidewalk ahead.
That is, until Genma broke the silence. “So, what now, Tendo?” he questioned.
“Well, we're going to need to start taking students again,” Soun replied. “Though I imagine Ranma's going to want to do some teaching himself. We should handle some sessions still, to give him time with Kasumi.
“You're right as always,” Genma agreed with a nod. “And Akane?”
Soun spared his youngest daughter a glance over his shoulder. This would be the hardest thing he would ever have to do. “I'm sending her away for a while,” he said.
Genma gazed at his old friend in surprise. “Where would you send her?!” he blurted out.
A sigh escaped Soun's lips as he replied. “Here's the plan she and I agreed on...”

The three options were written out on a separate piece of paper for Nabiki to review, each with a series of notes. She took a moment to read each of them again.
***
Waitress position.
Y700/hour. Located in Tokyo proper. Requires person wear bunny suit.
***
Well, it's not like they're gonna fill me up with untested medicine at least, Nabiki thought to herself. She then took a look at the next option.
***
Secretary.
Y800/hour, for the American embassy in Tokyo. Business attire at all times.
***
Not that bad, Nabiki mused with a smile as she looked at her last choice.
***
Exotic dancer.
Y1,000/hour plus tips. Located in Osaka. Requires that person be willing to work throughout the night. Stamina, affable personality a plus.
***
Nabiki wondered why she was even considering that last one. On the one hand, getting leered at by strange guys was not her idea of fun. On the other, the money was quick, and Kasumi's bills were mounting. It was time to choose.
