Anime 40,000: Inevitable Coincidences [Episode 153653]

by Kariston Draconis

About five dunes away from the crashed transport, two rather unusual Space Marine scouts were making their own way there. What made these two unusual? It wasn't so much that they were a bit younger than was usual, though that was a part of it. Nor was it the fact that it was only the two of them, though that wasn't the norm either. No, what made it unusual was that they were from two entirely different Marine Chapters.

The elder of the two was of the Ultramarines, the largest and most well known Chapter. He was only 19, but was already a very promising sniper, who went by the name Mamoru Chiba. So far he had managed to survive 5 smaller skirmishes, before getting involved in the current mess.

The younger of the two came from the Blood Angels, one of the more secretive Chapters, though still well known. At 17, he was already deadly in close combat, and was known as Ranma Saotome. Having only experienced one small skirmish before this current incident, he was content to follow the lead of the more experienced Mamoru, at least until it came time to fight.

How in heck did these two come to be working together? Interesting story...

Mamoru's scout squad had been undertaking a training mission on Darwinus when the fighting had broken out. They'd managed to hold off the rebels, but then those damned Eldar showed up, and the situation just went downhill from there. In a matter of days, he was all alone. However, he hadn't escaped unscathed, and probably would have died himself, if he hadn't been found by a scout team from the local Imperial Guard.

Three days later, he was out alone on a scouting mission, and had been present when a single Thunderhawk Gunship had managed to get through the Eldar lines, only to be hit by rebel anti-air fire and crash into a nearby lake. The only survivor had been Ranma.

It turns out that a Blood Angels ship had been passing by when they heard the distress call from the planet. Unfortunately they weren't able to assist, as they were required in a much larger conflict in a nearby sector, but they had been able to spare a single scout squad, which had turned out to be Ranma's.

As the two had made their way back to the Guard headquarters, they'd been attacked by about a hundred or so rebels, who'd thought two young Marine scouts made easy targets. Big mistake. 10 minutes later, a Guard unit arrived to find the two scouts with only minor scrapes and scratches, and a whole lot of dead rebels. Some had obviously been taken out by sniper rounds, others by bolt rounds from close range, while others still had very large slashes along their bodies, from what could only be a very large knife.

Since then, the two had been working together, and had each developed a healthy respect for the others skills, and quite clearly well along the path of friendship.
