Setsuna's New Life: There's Ranma [Episode 154177]

by Kestral

There was an interesting schism in the human race.

The bulk of humanity did not believe in aliens or magic or monsters. They had no connections to any of the above, and cheerfully went about their business without a care about any of those factors ever figuring into the occasion.

Then there was the 10% that did.

Occasionally there would be a Nessie sighting or a monster in a lake or a witch deep in her cups would be seen flying home by a mundane. It was quickly covered up and some idiot with few mental defenses would find that they'd staged the whole thing as a lark using piano wire and windup toys or something. Unless you knew the truth of course.

The Men (and Women) In Gray cleaned things up as they went along. It was all for the best really. There had been attempts to bring the mundane (or muggle) populace into things before, but it had all collapsed sooner or later. There were just too many mundanes that would ignore all the rules of common sense and do something idiotic, blame someone other than themselves, get paranoid or something, and before you knew it they were burning perfectly normal neighbors for things that hadn't actually happened. It was said that eventually the time would come when the rest of humanity would get to the point where everyone was in on it and the human ego could deal with everyday interaction with people who had powers and abilities beyond normal parameters. Maybe when alien civilizations in oomphing big spaceships showed up. Nobody was going to hold their breath though.

So there was the bulk of the populace. No magic. No ESP. No alien heritage. They worked their little jobs and lived their little lives and hardly any of them ever got out of their pre-concieved paradigm and actually THOUGHT about much at all beyond what was for dinner and how to get into someone else's bed.

Then there were the ones who knew the Truth but didn't have paranormal abilities themselves. Sometimes they were related to those who knew. Sometimes they were sidekicks or romantic interests. Sometimes they were the snooping rival or the investigative reporter or the school principal or the senator.

Finally came the ones with the juice. Alien heritage and/or magic and/or ESP and/or ludicrously powerful martial artists and/or whatever.

There was Megami Academy in Japan, an international school (with affiliated elementary, junior high, high school, and university) for mahou shojo. There was a corresponding boy's school, though the number of magical boys was not nearly so high as that of magical girls.

There was Mahoro Academy also in Japan, similar to Megami Academy except that it was open to mundanes and had a large number of those who knew and those who practiced various forms of magic - mainly Western magic.

There was Hogwarts in England, and a few other specialized schools for the various magical arts.

In this strange world was Ranma. As Setsuna had observed earlier, the timestorm had linked his fate and the Senshi. It might mean he'd just cross their path, or he could be a villain they'd face, or he might be the hero facing villainous Senshi, or any number of things - but they would meet. Look for Ranma and sooner or later he'd find the Senshi for her. Easy enough.

Saotome home. Check. A little bit better off financially from the look of it but it was there and there was the usual looking outbuilding that was probably the dojo. Not that she could get too close a look at it as there seemed to be an old magical warding that still carried a fair amount of charge. That in and of itself seemed to indicate there was going to be something about this setup she didn't like.

A few minutes of observation confirmed that intuition.
