Suikoden-ish: And So The Story Begins. [Episode 154926]

by Rightius

The old castle stood on a cliff overlooking the lake. Tall gothic towers, and ancient walls whose stones seemed ready to fall out in a moments notice completed the look. All in all it painted a rather poignant picture. The scenic plains completed the effect. Yes everything from the large metal gate to the winding path that led up to said castle was beautiful. The fact that they had been untouched by human hands for hundreds of years only served to strengthen the effect.

Unfortunately, while the castle had not been visited by humans for hundreds of years, it had been noted by them. A small group of travelers seeking to start a new life in their recently purchased ruin was already walking along that untraveled road, mindlessly desecrating the almost sacred mystery of the area.

However they were not unobserved. A small light could be seen reflecting out of one of the castle’s windows. And indeed a sole figure, holding a telescope to its eye watched their slow ascent to the gates. It was rather displeased.

‘Yes’, thought the castle’s lone inhabitant, ‘It would be a shame to let people come and disturb all this nice peace and tranquility I’ve been having. I will have to deal with them.’ Even in its thoughts the creature managed to put the same connotation on ‘deal’ as hundreds of stewards and butlers had before it.

With its plan decided, the creature went over to one of the walls and retrieved the intricately decorated sword that hung there. It ran its hand over the sheathed weapon as if it were a long-lost friend. Then, quick as lightning, it drew the blade in a flash of steal, only to watch as said blade sailed out through the window and embedded itself deeply inside the castle’s walls. The creature twitched slightly, making a mental note to use the deathtraps.

Meanwhile the travelers who were approaching the castle, and its slightly insane occupant, found that they were quite excited. Indeed all 7 of them were looking towards their new lives. Unfortunately the leader of the group, the actual owner of the castle, found that he was slightly irritated that only 7 people had asked to join. The castle had room for well over a hundred, and if he wanted any return on his investment he would need to see about attracting residents, particularly ones who could do something useful. ‘Better think about getting it fixed up first though’, _________ noted.
