“Um… I don’t think this is Tokyo…” Mihosho replied after a moment’s thought. “There’s too much fog… We must be in London!” She exclaimed, walking behind her larger companion.
“Stupid fog!” Ryoga groused. He just KNEW there was a big pool of cold water hidden in these mists somewhere, waiting for him to take on inattentive step and fall in. This was all Ranma’s fault! Well, partially at least. It had to be, right? That damned Washu fit in somewhere though. And Mihoshi of course. Though it was hard to stay mad at the blonde haired girl for long…
Ryoga’s wool gathering was interrupted as his foot struck something hard in the fog. He stumbled for a few steps, regaining his balance. “Grr.. Stupid rocks!” He leaned forward and gave the obstruction a good solid kick, blowing off some of his frustration.
He didn’t expect a mottled green object to go flying up out of the fog and drop to the ground twenty feet away with a thump. “Um.. Oops?” Grinning sheepishly, the Bandana Boy looked around to see if anyone had noticed his accidental act of vandalism.
“What was that?” Mihoshi asked curiously. She quickly sauntered over to where the object of Ryoga’s irritation had landed, leaning over to feel the ground through the fog until she found it.
“I’m sure it was nothing important. Maybe we should just leave…” Ryoga sounded a touch nervous. He had long ago discovered that people could get VERY touchy over little accidents. Like knocking down light posts or accidentally punching holes in walls or stomping through prized flower beds when you were trying to find your way to Hiroshima. There always seemed to be a lot of shouting and yelling and shaking of fists. It was usually best to just move on. Quickly.
“Ooohh! It’s some kind of suit!” Mihoshi lifted the mottled green suit upright through the fog, looking down at it with interest. “Um.. With a big hole in the chest…” Mihoshi glanced at the martial artist, who flushed in embarrassment.
“Heh heh... Now would definitely be a good time to leave I think…” Ryoga scratched the back of his head, embarrassed. Whatever that thing was, it looked expensive. That would mean even MORE yelling and shouting. Sigh. things had been so much simpler when he had been pretty sure that everything like this was completely Ranma’s fault.
“Don’t worry!” Mihoshi replied happily. “I’m sure I can fix this!” She pulled her GP issue energy cube out and started fiddling with it. “I think… I know I have a repair kit in here somewhere….”
A dark sense of foreboding suddenly filled Ryoga, a shiver working it’s way down his spine. “No good will come of this…” He muttered to himself, watching the bubbly blonde hum to herself as she did something incomprehensible to the suit.
Three Hours Later
Half a dozen glowing balls of light floated sedately into the chamber, slowing to hover in formation over the mottled green suit. These were no mere balls of glowing swamp gas. No, these points of light were the physical manifestation of entities that had long ago ceased to view the world in a mere three dimensions. Reaching out to each other, the six entities ‘spoke’ on a level beyond the perception of most races in the galaxy.
~~ It is ready.~~
~~Yes. It is a start.~~
~~Will it work?~~
~~It will work.~~
~~With this we will be able to speak to the children.~~
~~Yes.~~
~~They are young.~~
~~They are ignorant.~~
~~They need guidance.~~
~~Now we will be able to provide that guidance. We will appear to be as they are.~~
~~Will the other suits be ready?~~
~~Yes.~~
~~This is the first. Others will be copied from it.~~
~~We will spread ourselves out, bringing order.~~
~~Understanding.~~
~~Clarity.~~
~~Yes. Let us begin.~~
One of the lights broke from the rest, floating down to the suit. It flowed into the opening atop the device, which quickly sealed shut. The suit rose smoothly to it’s feet, standing tall and straight above the fog. Its ‘head’ rose, and a single iris slowly opened, revealing one large red eye. The crystals on its chest glowed faintly. And then it spoke.
“I am Kosh.” Echoed through the chamber.
~~It works.~~ ‘spoke’ one entity.
~~It works.~~ Echoed the other four.
~~It works~~ Responded hundreds of other entities, watching the proceedings from a distance with senses that defy description.
“It is pudding that makes sardines flammable.” Replied Kosh.
~~….~~
~~…~~
~~…~~
“Only One can be strong when Two are left aside.” Kosh tried again.
The mental silence stretched out endlessly.
“The truth is a five ringed vegetable.” Kosh said, making one last token effort.
If they still had physical bodies, the five remaining points of light would have sweatdropped.
~~Perhaps… Clarity is not the best approach to contacting the younger races.~~
~~Yes. Being… mysterious may allow us to guide them more effectively.~~
~~Enigmatic.~~
~~Incomprehensible.~~
“The moon is filled with cheese if you have no hands to grasp it.”
~~…~~~
~~I bet the Shadows never have problems like this.~~ Thought one entity sullenly.
In a distant corner of the galaxy, on a barren, desolate planet, creatures of darkness walked the halls of ancient ruins, phasing in and out of the world around them as they chattered and squawked to each other in their own tongue.
~~What do you MEAN the exterior bioforms of our ships keep growing to become pink with yellow smiley face polka dots???~~
