There were a great many individuals who had naturally found an interest in Ranma Saotome over the years. Had he done nothing else with his life, he'd always be known as the boy who had been found after he'd tried to stow away on the Pioneer. That was something that was seen as 'cute', and like many child television stars, he might have only been known for that.

But had anyone seen him leap from a cockpit simulator would acknowledge, he wasn't content to be the 'cute little urchin'.

It started on the Pioneer, with the crew giving him little lessons on how to work various machinery. He'd proven that he had little aptitude for things like engineering, or medicine, but there had been a rather surprising, and pleasing development. The little martial artist had proven that he had the sort of knack for piloting that others could only envy. He wasn't exactly one who relied a lot on instruments, but more on the 'feel' of what he was flying, which actually proved to be accurate in its own way, with it especially working when he used mecha.

When he'd been informed that he was going to be placed into a program that help him become a great mecha pilot, he was initially excited, but then worried about how this would affect his Art. When he was told that not only would he be allowed to continue on with it, but that they wanted to help him become the best martial artist he could be, since that would help in his piloting, his only concern was when he could get started. With acceptance from him and those responsible for his care, he proceeded to start his training in full force.

As a result, Ranma Saotome grew up in that training program, where he learned quickly and well. Life was good for him, as he got to enjoy the sort of upbringing that boys his age usually never had a chance to. And he got to experience having people around him, as he'd had training buddies, squad mates, and instructors to be in contact with, rather than the long and lonely road that he might have otherwise taken.
