A woman with dark red hair wearing a blue mini-dress and pink apron was berating a blue skinned man with green hair. Three girls and one dog were watching the proceeding with amusement. One girl had brown hair and wearing a blue school uniform. One had blue hair and wearing a tan school uniform. The last girl had orange hair and wearing a green school uniform. The dog was of an unknown breed that was pretty big. It had dark brown fur with light brown patches in shapes. On its back was a circle of tan fur and a giant M of tan fur decorated the face.
"Doro, listen here. My daughters and niece have risked their lives working for you and protecting the northern island," the woman was saying.
"Shouga-san. Miss Tsurugino your daughters and niece are needed to keep the rouge elements of the Spirit World in check," Doro said.
"They need a vacation. Their last battle leveled the school! The three of them was fighting giant ghost robots? The papers said that it was a meteor strike. I had to find out about their Makendo activities being blasted into the air by some of their enemies and Sabi had to fly in and rescue us. Sabi, Hikari's dog," Shouga declared.
"Speaking of that, how's your husband?" Doro asked.
Shouga glared at Doro. "Toshi is fine. Don't change the subject. Let them have their vacation."
Amusedly the brown haired girl stepped forward and looked at Doro. She was Mai, the first of the Makendo.
"Doro-san, mom is right. We need a vacation," Mai said.
"Mai, what will happen if you leave."
"A bunch of practical jokers have some fun. We shouldn't be needed for at least a couple months. What is left should be weak enough for the regular members of the Spirit Police to deal with. At any rate, I don't waste my time or effort on harmless practical jokers. So what if a baby roc wants to create and updraft that causes women's skirts to blow up? So what if some ghosts pop up behind a group and have their picture taken? They are harmless. The harmful spirits are dead or in jail," Mai said. "Besides, you still have Makenkah to convince to join the Spirit Police."
Doro looked at the other two girls. "Hikari? Saya? What about the two of you?"
"I might enjoy spirit hunting, but mom is right. I am tired," the blue haired girl, Hikari, said.
Saya shrugged her shoulders. "I still need a bit of time to accept my powers. I'm agreeing with my aunt as well."
Doro's shoulders slumped and took a look at the dog. The dog closed his eyes and ignored the Spirit Detective. Mai walked up to Doro and put a hand on his shoulder. Doro looked up at Mai.
"If there is a dangerous menace, talk to my mom. If she agrees it is dangerous, she'll call us and we'll come back and take care of it," Mai said, and saw her mother gave a reluctant nod.
Doro sighed and floated off. Mai shook her head and looked at her mom.
"Mom, I'm sorry...," Mai began.
"I've heard your rants enough after I found out about your activities," Shouga said. "I've accepted what the three of you are, you don't have to explain. Stop trying to deny you are a heroine, Mai. Hikari and Saya have accepted it."
"I'm surprised dad hasn't freaked," Mai said.
"You know your father. He was still reading a paper when we got blasted into the air and Sabi rescued us. He only put down the paper when he heard you talking to Makenkah. One of daddy's little girls was dating."
Mai flushed with embarrassment at that scene her father created with the cyborg Makenkah. She quickly changed the subject.
"How's the dojo on the coast doing?" Mai asked.
"It has been fully repaired. The insurance covered a small portion of it. The rest of the repairs came out of yours and Hikari's bank accounts. A very small amount compared to what's in those accounts. Have you thought about buying Bandai?" Shouga said, humoring her eldest daughter.
"We don't have that much money," Mai objected.
"You had enough money to buy a plot of land inside Tokyo and have a decent sized house and garden placed on the lot for your vacation and it didn't even knock your account down by one percent," Shouga stated.
Mai shrugged. "What can we say? We're well paid by the Spirit Police when it comes to dangerous menaces."
Shouga nodded. "True. I was thinking about asking you to leave your Makendo devices here, but I know better. You had better get to the train station."
"The train wouldn't allow Sabi on, so we chartered a bus. We'll have to make it to the bus stop though. Later Mom," Mai said.
Shouga watched as Mai, Hikari, Saya, and Sabi headed off to meet their bus.
'Hopefully they won't have any problems while they are on vacation,' Shouga thought. 'I hope those rumors are just rumors.'
Unfortunately for Shouga's desires, the rumors were true.
