Magical Girl Gathering: The Calm Before [Episode 159516]

by Disruptor

Spirit Police Detective Doro sat at his desk and filled out the various paperwork.

"Ever since Saya joined up with her cousins, my paperwork has gone up and not down," Doro muttered.

"Copper Doro has to fill out paperwork? The world is coming to an end," a voice said and laughter followed.

Doro looked up and saw a young man that appeared to be in his late teens leaning against the frame of the door. He was wearing a white outfit with a red scarf wrapped around his neck. Instead of having normal hair, it was a shiny black mass of metal.

"Makenkah? What are you doing here?" Doro asked.

"I came to see you rant about your paperwork once more," Makenkah said with a shrug. "It's quite amusing."

"If you're done laughing at me...," Doro said in resignation.

"Oh? That? I was wondering where the Makendo are at the moment," Makenkah stated.

"Trying to track down Dr. Mud again?" Doro asked.

"What's the point? I'm hoping that maybe Makendo Z or Saya might be able to fix me," Makenkah replied.

"Why her?"

"Come on. You only had two Makendo devices. You gave one to Mai and the other to Hikari. Where did Saya's come from?"

"You know as well as I do where that one came from," Doro retorted.

"Exactly. Doing that requires skills that aren't taught in any schools. Maybe she has the know-how to fix me," Makenkah stated.

"She might not," Doro countered.

"If she doesn't know, she'll tell me. What is that going to cost me? A day? An hour? Negligible time for following up on a lead to get my old body back."

"What of that cyborg dressed in black?"

A bit of anger crossed Makenkah's features, as he stared at Doro. "What of him?"

"If you become human once more, he'll be able to claim that he is better than you," Doro explained.

"I'll deal with that before I get my old body back," Makenkah replied.

Doro gave a long sigh. "You could do so much good with your powers."

"Still on that world peace bit I see. However, that is not important. Where are the Makendo?" Makenkah asked.

"They are on vacation," Doro answered.

"Where would they go where they wouldn't be bugged by every two yen Spirit?" Makenkah muttered, while stroking his chin.

"I don't know. Shouga Tsurugino kept nagging at me, and I didn't ask," Doro replied.

"Hmph," Makenkah snorted. "I was talking to myself. So, the mighty Doro got his petard hoisted by a normal woman? I wish I had seen that. They probably did need a vacation after that last battle."

"Mai, Hikari, and Saya aren't helping matters any with how they won't tell me if Shouga and Toshi are Saya's parents or Mai and Hikari's parents. On a daily basis, they switch calling her Mom and Aunt," Doro mumbled.

Makenkah chuckled a bit and thought about the problem.

"The Makendo would have to go where their powers would be masked a bit. Rumors are circulating about the Juuban ward in Tokyo about a team of six girls with powers similar to the Makendo. If they are true, then by going there would act as a stealth field" Makenkah mused. "Juuban Ward of Tokyo, here I come."

"Why don't you join the Spirit Police? You used logical thinking to come up with an answer," Doro pleaded.

"I would look silly wearing a mini-skirt," Makenkah replied with a straight face.

"You're a boy. Why would I force you to wear a mini-skirt?" Doro asked a bit perplexed.

"I guess I was wrong about that reason then. I'll see you later," Makenkah stated and walked out the door.

Doro stared at the door for a few minutes and then gave an amused chuckle.

"Clever, Makenkah. You distracted me with your silly joke," Doro muttered.

=====

In Juuban, Saya gave a sneeze and looked around. She shook her head and watched as her two cousins were once more sparring. Although to any normal person, it looked like they were trying to kill each other with some very painful moves. She headed over to an old arcade game that she had salvaged from a junkyard. It was a game where you used a gun shaped control and shot computerized ducks. The game had been modified to run a lot faster than normal. Saya still wracked up a very impressive score before she holstered the gun and let the arcade game declare Game Over due to missing the ducks.

"Break!" Saya called.

Mai and Hikari stopped sparring and looked at Saya. Saya pointed at the clock.

"It's time to start cooking, if we want to eat," Saya said.

"Right, cousin," Hikari said and dashed into the kitchen.

Mai picked up a towel and wiped her forehead off. She looked at Saya and smiled a bit.

"I saw that you quit that game in disgust. Why?" Mai asked.

"It's not random enough. It's too easy," Saya replied.

"I would say that if it came from anyone but you, I would say they were joking at a game being modified to run three times faster than normal is too easy," Mai said.

"I did try to get it to go faster, but the display couldn't keep up with the game."

"Maybe. But I think we need to talk about something that might be important to you," Mai said. "Juuban is the school where Ami Mizuno attends. I think you'll be in the same class as her."

"Mizuno? Mizuno? Doesn't ring any bells," Saya muttered.

"You were the number one student in Japan for your grades. Ami Mizuno is number two," Mai explained.

"So? What does that have to do with me?" Saya asked.

"You aren't concerned about being in the same class as Ami Mizuno?" Mai asked.

"No. Not really. My grades aren't all that important. I want to do well, but it's not really all that necessary anymore. We all work for the Spirit Police and get paid well. We'll have enough money to retire on by the time Hikari turns twenty," Saya replied and then shrugged. "I intend to go to one of the colleges in the Spirit World to pick up some skills that aren't offered by the Human World schools."

"Aren't you afraid of reprisals from some of the Spirits you put away?" Mai asked.

Saya started laughing. "Mai, we work for the Spirit Police. The Spirit World is like the Human World. We just keep seeing the crooks and jerks of the Spirit World due to our jobs."

Mai started laughing as well. "I guess that was a stupid question. If the Spirit World truly intended to invade the Human World, they wouldn't have a Spirit Police or recruited Hikari and myself to deal with the Spirits. Although, I think they could have done better than Doro as the recruiter."

"Doro's all right. He just needs to realize that we are humans and nor Spirits or cyborgs," Saya countered.

"Mai? Saya? The pizzas are done," Hikari called from the kitchen.
