As she put her tray onto the pile of dirty ones after she'd finished her breakfast, she turned to discover that her bunkmate was apparently not pleased with something that she'd heard. That 'Sosuke' character was seemingly looking for a way out, by the way that his eyes were peeking around for some sort of escape path. Kaname clearly noticed that, and was obviously berating him for trying to look to get away. The response that he gave wasn't the one that was supposed to be acceptable to the Japanese girl, and she let him know it.
But it was when he decided to put his plan into action that the blonde airman's jaw dropped.
Sam had no idea of the reasoning behind the use of the big paper fan, but she automatically knew that it wasn't quite going to be the biggest shock of what she would see. That 'honor' was reserved for the fact that Kaname did not merely stand there when he bolted. Instead, she ran right after him, and even if Carter could only understand the word 'Sosuke' in the entire sentence, the intent behind the words was clear. She chased right after him, with her fan held high above her head. He leapt over seats, weaved around people, and ran like his life depended on it, which, by the look in her eyes, it apparently did.
There was a definite feeling of closeness between the two though, and that just served to confuse Samantha further. It was almost like those two were sharing some sort of insane and violent bond that had an undercurrent of simmering feelings. She wasn't quite sure what they could be, but she was pretty sure that it would likely not be quiet with a roommate like that. If there was someone who didn't seem to be the type to be the 'delicate flower of womanhood' that Sam had thought was the ideal in Japanese relationship culture, it was Kaname. Of course, that wasn't to say that her roommate wasn't a pretty girl, as she was very attractive, but she could easily see the girl charging into a problem, rather than letting someone else take control of it.
If nothing else, she was going to be able to not worry about shyness from that department, even if she did have to wonder about what sort of tough guy let a girl beat on him. There had to be a reason, but as she wasn't there to be a counselor, she was going to keep her nose out of it. She wasn't too sure that she wanted to do much more than to stand back and watch.
There were other things that needed her concern, like work. Ignoring her duties would be a problem, and she didn't want all her training, like her time practicing in WorkMechs, to go to waste. With work to be done, she was going to make certain that she didn't mess up. Hurrying would get her there early, and she knew that if those in charge started off seeing her as being prompt from the start, it would be better for her. Besides, she'd never liked being late for anything before, and wasn't going to start now.
Unfortunately, she bumped into someone just as she headed out of the mess hall. The man caught by her shoulders, and she started off feeling fairly foolish. Concern was added to that as she realized that she'd nearly bowled over an officer, and she wondered just how much of a mess she had made in this, especially when she saw his uniform.
"Hello, Airman," the bearded man told her as he let her go. "In a rush?"
She nodded back at him. "Got to get to work, sir."
"Ah, that is commendable, Airman.... Carter?"
"Thank you, sir."
"You're welcome. But a word of advice. I find that hurrying makes for a greater possibility of problems coming up."
"I know, sir."
"That's good to hear," he replied.
"I'll be more careful, sir."
"Good, because the next time, you might not be running into someone like me. There are some folk around here who tend to be rather... attached to their importance."
"You mean to say...."
"Trust me. Andrey Kalinin does not say what he does not mean. Usually. If he doesn't have a reason."
"Who?"
"Me, Airman."
"Sorry, sir."
"Don't worry about it. Just get going, and do well," he murmured.
"I will, sir."
"I'm glad to hear it. Perhaps we'll see each other around the station."
"Could be."
"Goodbye then."
"Goodbye, sir," Sam answered, and started walking away, glad that she hadn't gotten in trouble with that, while:
