Coupled Union - Racing Hearts: Comings And Goings [Episode 160180]

At the moment, the situation was fairly strange, and Soun was well aware of the fact. His old friend's wife had just shown up, and that really should have been something to be pleased about, but his friend seemed to be nervous. Of course, he hadn't known that she was coming any more than he'd known that the girl coming had been a friend of his friend's son. There hadn't been any way that he could find out on his own, and the only way that he could learn of it was through a particular channel.

Turning to that source of information, he glared at his middle daughter. "Nabiki, just why didn't you tell me that this would be happening?!"

"This? How could I know that your friend would get all flustered just by bringing some people over?" the short haired daughter replied.

"I don't mean that! I mean the fact that you brought two people who know Genma, and you didn't tell me!"

"Oh.... that. Simple. I couldn't be sure."

"That's no excuse."

"True. An excuse is a reason to ignore something done after the fact," Nabiki answered, giving a helpless little smirk. "What we had here was a failure to recognize."

"You're... not making sense."

"It's really simple, Daddy. For all I knew, you could have invited a 'Genma Saotome' who lived on a farm in Hokkaido to visit. That name alone didn't guarantee that it would be the same person that the people that I've met would know."

"So.... You couldn't tell that it was him, and so you didn't tell me... because you might be wrong?"

"Something like that."

"But what about his wife?"

Akane gave a very unladylike snort. "Come on, Dad. Think about it. Up until today, she was just the very nice woman who treated us great."

"Why, thank you for the kind words," Nodoka commented.

"You're welcome, and they're all true. But still, we tell you that we know your friend's wife, and you'll get excited. And then you start acting on it, even if you're going to be disappointed."

Soun reluctantly nodded. "That could be true.... It would be embarrassing for that to happen. I suppose that would be a good enough reason."

"And it just isn't nice to say things about people when they don't know about it," Kasumi murmured. "It would be terribly impolite."

"You're right about that."

"I do try to be good about those sorts of things."

Nodoka smiled at the eldest Tendo girl. "And you are, dear. I could only wish that I would have a child like you."

"Hey!" Ranma blurted as Kasumi demurely blushed.

"I don't mean instead of you, my son. But it would be nice to have given birth to a daughter as well. To have given you a sister would have been wonderfully, but it didn't seem to be fated, and because of your father, we didn't get much of a chance to do so."

"It's not my fault that we didn't have a girl," Genma grunted. "It's because of that... that... you know. Besides, it's not like I didn't do my duty in getting an heir."

"You did do that much, husband. On the other hand...."

"Yes?"

"We have a lot to talk about."

The portly man whimpered at the tone that she took.

"Buck up, old friend," the Tendo patriarch commented. "I'm certain that you and your wife will be having good discussions. Just remember the joy of being reunited with your wife, since you could.... lose the chance, and she could...."

Haruka gave the mustached man a flat stare as he began to sob. "Does he do this a lot?"

"Every so often. Depends on what it is, and how long he makes an association with something that makes him emotional," Nabiki responded.

"You really shouldn't comment on him like that," the redheaded woman admonished."

"I'm not about to be treat him in any way other than how he deserves. But aren't you going to have to worry about your husband?"

"I'll simply talk to him when we can be alone. It'll give us more time, and less distractions then."

"Why don't you do it now?" her daughter-in-law suggested.

"But it's not like we could be alone with so many people around."

"That's okay. You see, I drove here in my car. I can drive some of us off to someplace where we can enjoy ourselves, and you can have your time alone with your husband."

"That would give us some free time to handle everything straight from the beginning...."

"No, you're supposed to follow the plans that I helped set up," Genma whined.

All the females there glared at him, making the portly Saotome shrink back, while:
