A week after Lina got her house, she had fallen into a routine of helping people and talking to Kraden to figure out a way home and spending time on learning Psynergy with Jenna and her friends. With the knowledge gleaned, she was able to overcome the monthly periodic weakness that most female mages of her world were subject to. After healing a person who had accidentally ripped out seven of his toenails, Lina visited Kraden and studied some more on Psynergy. The old sage debated with himself for a long time, as he thought about his theory. Isaac was busy repairing the roof of his family's house. Jenna and Garet were handling other chores. Lina had visited Kraden's home earlier than the others, so she could pump the scholar for information.
Kraden looked at Lina with a very thoughtful expression.
"Lina, I'm going to tell you something. I want you to keep it quiet for now," Kraden said.
Lina looked at the old sage curiously. "I'll decide after I hear it."
"It's just my theory and what has to be done to fix things," Kraden said.
Lina just looked at Kraden.
"In your world, magic or alchemy is not repressed."
"Not inside the barrier. I don't know about outside and the priesthood keeps the stronger spells of White Magic to themselves. Learning the healing spells of Water and by extension Fire and Earth by observing Isaac and Jenna was something I couldn't pass up," Lina said with a smirk.
Kraden nodded. "Still, your people were able to rebuild a city after it was destroyed at pretty much the same skill level as what went in near the end of that city's life."
Lina nodded. "Yes. Although with Flagoon, it's changed a bit. I guess it's a little better than what it used to be."
"More proof that my theory is valid," Kraden said.
"Your theory? What does an improvement to Sairagg have to do with your theory?" Lina asked.
"Just this. Civilizations are built by people acquiring knowledge and then passing it down for it to be built on by the next generation."
"That's sound reasoning," Lina said with a frown.
"After Alchemy was sealed away, the great civilizations vanished. As each year passes, knowledge is lost. There are huge ruins that were built by lost civilizations. The only civilization that still might be the same is Lemuria and they retreated from the world."
"Why would knowledge be lost after Alchemy was sealed away?"
Kraden gave a long sigh. "My belief is that the seal on Alchemy is taking knowledge away from each generation to maintain itself. The only way we'll ever grow once more is break the seal. Unfortunately there are those who don't want this to happen, since there is a very good chance that wars and conflict will arise once more. We've had more than a thousand years of peace since the seal was placed and the world has been preserved from destruction."
"You have peace, but you are losing knowledge. If you want knowledge, war might break out. My world has also had a long period of peace after the Dark Resurrection War. At least inside the barrier it has," Lina mused and then shook her head. "A preserved world? A stagnating world? Is this a world where the Shinzoku won the war?"
"Shinzoku? I don't understand."
"Mazoku and Shinzoku are two races that oppose each other. Mazoku want to destroy the staff that holds up the world and Shinzoku want to preserve it and the world," Lina idly explained.
Sighing heavily, Lina said, "I won't say anything about what you just told me. I have some thinking to do about Mazoku and Shinzoku."
"I don't know if we have such creatures here, but thanks for keeping quiet."
Lina nodded and was about to leave when a loud pounding was heard at the door. Lina headed into Kraden's workroom and waited. She saw the old sage answer the door. A rose skinned woman with blonde hair wearing a white dress with a rose colored pattern on it. The inside of her cape was rose and the outside of it was white. The man was blue skinned and had light blue-green hair. He was also wearing a dark blue breastplate. His leggings were whitish-blue and his cape was purple on the inside and blue on the outside.
The man looked at Kraden. "You are the scholar Kraden. We have a need to discuss the Elemental Stars in Sol Sanctum with you."
Lina with great difficulty suppressed her first instinct to blast the two. She sat in the corner on the same wall as the entrance to Kraden's lab, but out of sight of the two visitors. She listened to Kraden and the two verbally challenge each other and the information that the two visitors had on Sol Sanctum. She quickly realized that the Elemental Stars in Sol Sanctum were very important. After Kraden told the two of them to leave, Lina got up and walked out of the lab.
"Those Elemental Stars? They're holding the seal in place, aren't they?" Lina quietly asked.
"Not quite. The Stars are needed to light the Elemental Lighthouses. Once all four are lit, the seal will be broken," Kraden said, while looking a bit troubled.
Kraden went into his lab and pulled a small bundle from one of his desks. He returned and motioned for Lina to follow him. The two of them left Kraden's house, while Lina was a bit confused.
"Where are we going?"
"Sol Sanctum. I want to make sure that those two didn't disturb anything," Kraden answered.
"I've heard that climbing Mt. Aleph to visit Sol Sanctum is forbidden," Lina mused idly. "I wonder the punishment will be for us doing so."
"If the town elders find out, then we'll be kicked out of the village," Kraden said.
"I can't sit by and let two creeps like that threaten a place that has given me a home and knowledge about my abilities. I have to do something. Whatever they intend to do at Sol Sanctum, I want to foul it up in some way," Lina replied. "If I get kicked out of the village, I accept that."
"I was pointing out the consequences. Let's get going," Kraden said.
"We'll probably have to sneak by whoever is on guard duty today," Lina said. "I have something that should get us by him without consequence."
The duo headed off and towards Mt. Aleph. Unknown to them, there were three people who heard their conversation outside Kraden's home.
"We have to do something," Jenna whispered hoarsely. "Lina's going to get kicked out of Vale."
"We'll follow and see what's going on," Isaac whispered. "They must be talking about Saturos and Mendari."
"Great, we're going to be chasing after those two," Garet whispered, as he rolled his eyes.
The trio of Vale Adepts quickly followed Lina and Kraden. The trio saw Darv, who was on guard duty at the base of the steps leading up to Sol Sanctum. What surprised them was that Darv was sleeping while standing up. As he began to stir, they rushed passed him. Darv looked around and scratched his head.
"I though I heard someone say 'sleep'. I must have just imagined it," Darv said and went back to walking back and forth in front of the steps.
