Small animals fled. Birds took wing. Small children began crying.
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Sailor Pluto covered her ears. How the heck had Professor Tomoe's 'mad scientist cackle' gotten even worse?! It was on a level with Naga's 'crazed noblewoman laugh' at this point.
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Milk spontaneously curdled. Old women began praying in front of their family shrine. Cockroaches keeled over and died.
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Hotaru pouted. "Poppa!"
"BWAHAHA- Hotaru?"
Hotaru held up her bottle of milk.
"Oh, sorry about that," said the Professor, looking moderately embarassed.
Hotaru looked moderately displeased and went off to find something she could put over her Rice Crispies that wouldn't be completely disgusting.
Ranma yawned as he came down the stairs. "Anyone know why all the clocks stopped?"
"Hmmm," said the Professor, "perhaps I need to start curbing my enthusiasm. Perhaps..."
Ranma stopped in midstep and began looking around, finally fixing his attention on apparently empty space. One arm blurred.
Setsuna cut the connection immediately - as Ranma had been staring right at her, but apparently hadn't seen her YET. Just detected the aperature she was viewing from. She'd have to be more circumspect or - wait one moment.
Setsuna went around to the other side of the Gates and pulled out a toothbrush that had somehow gotten imbedded in the surface of the Gates.
Okay, he was DEFINITELY a threat.
"I'll need another toothbrush," commented Ranma as he felt the spy retreat.
"Ranma, I just worked out the basics of your skinsuit's material," said Professor Tomoe. "It's almost as thin as rice paper, but actually composed of three layers - with the outer being a flexible weave of tiny overlapping scales made of an alloy of titanium."
"That's nice," said Ranma.
"Nobody appreciates science," said Professor Tomoe sadly. "Yet I will persevere!"
"A combat helicopter?" asked Haruka Tenou.
"Yes, I'm working at the supplying of mercenaries overseas and your skills as a driver and a pilot make you ideal as a test pilot," said the green-haired woman.
"I fail to see why I'm included in this," said Michiru Kaioh.
"You aren't exactly lacking in those skills yourself, and I have... contacts that you could use in your attempts to break into the recording industry," said Setsuna. "Once you do that, your skills will assure your own rise in the artistic world."
"So what's this all about, anyway?" asked Haruka. Testing high performance equipment was nice but she wasn't exactly strapped for cash.
"There is a danger, a prototype artificial intelligence weapon system that could go berserk at any moment, killing innocent people - it escaped and is hiding in Azabu Juuban," said Setsuna, putting a few pictures of Ranma doing some heavy lifting and yardwork.
"I got it, and you want it done quietly so that nobody knows you lost this thing," said Haruka, familiar enough with that sort of scenario.
Setsuna inclined her head.
"Well, if it saves lives," said Michiru, thinking about it.
Setsuna hoped it wouldn't come to blackmailing the two with their baby pictures, but she had a full set of embarassing moments on film if it came to that.
