Gundam Seed - After War: First Step to Becoming a Red [Episode 161173]

It all started with the footage shown in his Tactics class.

The teacher had started off the lecture with images of GINNs launching to enter combat against Alliance mobile armours and Strike Daggers. In some cases, the GINN dominated the combat while in other scenarios, they were the ones being destroyed easily. That's when it dawned on Shinn Asuka.

He had joined the military because he didn't want to feel helpless while people he cared about were hurt. He wanted the power to protect whatever is closest to him. With his current path, he'll simply become another soldier in the military who will only get access to standard weaponry which is far inferior than the weaponry he had observed on that bastard mobile suit in Orb.

What he desired was to get access to similar kind of weaponry but ZAFT has been hesitant to construct more prototypes of that nature considering how the Freedom had been stolen from under their noses. That aspect is beyond his control so he has to settle for the hope that they will change their minds in the future.

As for what he could do on his end, he'll need to show them that he has the ability to handle such sophisticated and powerful weaponry. He already knew how soldiers who get medals for their great deeds on the battlefield have a higher chance of getting commander-type mobile suits like the CGUE. But that's not exactly the way he wanted to go about doing things.

He was thinking about this matter when he spotted his classmate, Rey Za Burrel in the hallway after the class was dismissed. He almost didn't recognize him since he was no longer wearing a green academy uniform but rather a red one. "Rey? What's with the uniform change?"

"I was able to pass the entrance exam to get into the Red Program." The Red Program is an add-on program for those planning to be mobile suit pilots to the Academy curriculum. The difficult entrance exams and the additional workload were the primary reasons why only a handful of mobile suit pilots who graduate from ZAFT Academy were able to wear that uniform colour. Upon successful completion of the program, a designation is entered into the soldier's file and they often get special assignments and missions that may not be suitable for the regular soldier. "You know, Shinn... you have the potential to become a Red too."

This caught Shinn off guard. "Huh?"

"I've seen some of your moves when you were in the GINN Trainer cockpit a while back. You can go pretty far... that is, if you have the will to seize the moment." Rey decided to leave Shinn with that thought and headed to his next class.

'Become a Red, eh? Maybe this can get me where I need to go.' The young Coordinator started walking to the building's main office so he could read up some more about the Red entrance exams and sign up for them. He was a bit surprised to see Luna already filling in a form.

"I do hope you realize what you're getting into, Miss Hawke," commented the blonde female secretary from behind the desk.

"Don't worry about me. I made a resolve to become a Red no matter what!" 'And maybe becoming a Red will increase my chances of finding Sempai!' Luna handed in the completed form and received three small booklets containing exam information and some sample questions.

"In that case, I wish you good luck and hope to see your name on the plaque!" The plaque that the woman had mentioned was positioned directly beneath the office clock. Shinn briefly saw some of the names inscribed on it.

Rusty Mackenzie

Heine Westenfluss

Shiho Hahnenfuss

Shinn shook his head and approached the desk. "May I have some information about the Red Program's entrance exams?"
