And the decidedly primitive computer systems weren't helping a bit.
Setsuna resolutely shook away a shudder. Bureaucracy really was the same almost everywhere, it seemed.
She took one last look at the uniformed youngsters trying to sort out their superior officers papers, and sighed. Well, it was nice that they were trying to help, she supposed.
OK, now it was time to see if her poor abused scanners could pick up anything else...
A young girl with honey-brown hair, sleeping with a stuffed dog. Check.
A young boy with messy brown hair, sleeping with a ...rifle of some kind? Check.
The scanners then spent the next few minutes wandering around some children about the same age as the first two. A boy - yep, that was a boy, even with the braid - another boy with hair over one eye who looked a bit older then the others, and a blonde boy who looked somewhat younger then the others, and a black-haired boy who tossed and turned in his sleep. Hmmmmm?
And then there was a young girl with the strangest eyebrows, and then a slender blackhaired girl, and a slightly older looking brunette.
So many children. Why so many, and just why were the scanners showing her all this?
And then came the distinctly creepy older people, which just made things stranger. Five old men, no, six - and a woman, maybe? And all in what appeared to be some kind of lab coats, to boot.
How very odd.
And then -
Setsuna stared. And sighed.
Was it the scanners which had gone bonkers, or herself?
Setsuna Meiou sat at the Time Gate, and fidgeted.
She was being...drawn thin, seemed to be the only word to come to mind.
She would have to leave this place, she knew that, somehow. But when she did...
She thought about it. And thought about it some more.
And then, downloaded as much information as possible in as many of the Time Gate's functions as she could think of. Including her own memories, even though she knew that they'd just be a pale frozen shadow of the original.
And then, she took a deep breath.
And walked out of the Gate.
