Mai looked at Naru and snapped her fingers. She went to her shinai case. After opening it, she pulled out the rough gem she dropped in it earlier and handed it to Doro. The other girls looked at her in curiosity.
"Doro? That gem I just handed you has a ghost attached to it. Is there anyway to bring him back to life?" Mai asked.
Doro frowned, as he looked the gem over. "A powerful anti-death contingency device? Maybe. It'll take a bit of time."
"There is another one by the name of Danburite somewhere," Mai said. "That brings up the next point. Do we have anything at Spirit Police Headquarters that can undo brainwashing?"
Doro blinked and stared at Mai. "Why do you ask that?"
Mai pointed at the gem. "I questioned the ghost that is haunting that gem. His name is Neflyte."
Naru choked a bit when she heard that. Mai put it aside and continued on.
"After he was killed, he regained all of his memories and said that he once served the Prince of Earth until he and his friends were kidnapped and brainwashed to become the Dark Generals now serving Beryl," Mai said. "Pranksters, I can ignore since they are harmless. This I can not let slide," Mai explained. "One of them, Jedite, is in the Dark Dimension sealed up in crystal."
Doro nodded. "I'll get some people on it. We should be able to recover Jedite and free him from the brainwashing. By the way, which one of you three controls the Spirit Throne?"
"That would be me," Mai said with a rueful smile. "I already have my suspicions that if we uncover the Earth Prince, he'll be the one taking of the Spirit Throne."
Luna shook her head and muttered, "Earth Prince? We're hunting for the Moon Princess. I have no idea what this Spirit Throne is about."
Doro chuckled. "Moon Kingdom? So, some of it did survive. I take it you are reincarnations of those long ago warriors?"
Ami hesitantly nodded.
"Hmm. It's too bad about Fragarach or Kusanagi," Doro muttered. "But, things had to be done to insure the safety of the world. The Earth Prince will have to find another sword."
"Fragarach?" Ami asked.
Doro looked up. "A lot of magic swords have multiple names. Fragarach was the original name of the sword before it came to Japan. A powerful sword that can't be blocked by any armor and gives its wielder the power to control the wind is the description assigned to both names."
"I've studied some of Kusanagi's history," Rei said. "I take it that the story of it being stolen and replaced by a replica are true. It's being kept at Spirit Police Headquarters, isn't it?"
Doro smiled. "Close. Mai, Hikari, and Saya wouldn't be here if it wasn't for what happened to Kusanagi."
"What happened?" Rei asked.
"There was a prediction that Kusanagi's powers would be needed when times were darkest, but it was apparent that the monks who guarded Kusanagi were quick to disbelieve that there were any threats. Caladbolg, Calwdvwlch, Nóralltach, Claidheamh Solius and the other magic swords of the time were used to protect the Earth from Beryl's forces during the time of the fall of the Silver Millennium. However, the monks guarding Kusanagi only allowed it to be used when a demon tore into their temple. Then and only then did they allow Kusanagi to be used," Doro said. "There was a lot of death that could have been avoided if they had pulled the sword out earlier."
"Stupid," Rei muttered. "What does that have to do with Mai and her family?"
"I'm coming to that. Kusanagi fell into the hands of a foreign wizard by the name of Gwydion. He used a variation of a spell on Kusanagi that he and his Uncle Math used to break the third curse on his nephew Lleu Llaw Gyffes. That was when the Tsurugino family was founded," Doro said. "It's why Mai, Hikari, and Saya are natural adepts with martial arts and weapons and why they have magical abilities."
"You didn't explain what happened to Kusanagi," Ami said.
"Actually, I did," Doro replied a bit smugly. "It's just very hard to believe."
Mai shook her head and waved her hand dismissively. "At least I now know why you tracked me down and then caught my sister and cousin involved in this."
"I was actually surprised that there were three of you. I only expected Mai to have any abilities," Doro said a bit amused. "Hikari's training of Sabi is what gave that dog Makendo abilities. Your Makendo abilities come from your family's real close association with Kusanagi."
"It's not important anymore," Mai said. "So, how are we going to rescue the other Dark Generals from Beryl?"
"I could use the Crescent Moon Wand to heal him," Usagi suggested.
"They might be too strong for that to work," Ami stated.
"If they're beaten down quite a bit before she uses that wand, it might work," Hikari said.
"Maybe," Ami allowed.
"By the way what was with that gemstone that came out of the priest?" Mai asked.
Luna sighed and gave an explanation of the Rainbow Crystals and how they were needed to find the Silver Crystal and how Zoicite was able to use the Black Crystal to extract the Rainbow Crystals from one of the carriers and what the Crescent Moon Wand was able to do. The three Makendo girls listened thoughtfully.
"Seems like Beryl has an advantage over you," Saya said. "They have a means to identify someone before they leave their base and can make plans. You have nothing more than a proximity detector. We really should head to Spirit Police Headquarters and use it to find the other five carriers."
"How?" Luna asked, a bit sarcastically.
"Oh. We have a detector at H.Q. that keeps track of various spirit beings entering and leaving the spirit world," Saya said. "We plug the wand into the detector and see what happens. Hopefully, it will point out all five of them. If we do it fast enough, we can get the other five gems before Zoicite has a chance to. That Black Crystal must take time to recharge."
"Let's go," Mai said.
"Go? Go where?" Naru asked, as Saya, Hikari, and Sabi stood up.
"Spirit Police Headquarters," Mai stated. "We have two, maybe three people, that need restored and five innocents that are in danger from this Beryl twit. I think we had all better transform. If Beryl makes a raid on H.Q., she'll have a fight on her hands."
Naru watched as all the girls, save her, transformed into their more powerful alter egos. Doro floated up to Naru and looked at her.
"Just keep what Mai told you in your mind and heart," Doro softly said to Naru. "It takes time."
Naru nodded as she watched a bit amused as Sabi the Dog transformed into his Makendo form.
Doro floated toward a hallway. "Just follow me. The door will stay open for a few minutes."
The magical girls and two others followed the Spirit Detective into the hallway and into the Spirit World.
