Three American teens walked down the streets of Juuban ward in the middle of the afternoon. Of the three one was a the skinny male with black hair and bright blue eyes, which were currently darting around glaring at every shadow in suspicion. His two friends walked a few paces behind him, sharing an exasperated glance at his paranoid behavior.
Finally they had enough and reached forward grabbing the boy by his shoulders.
“HEY! TUCKER, SAM!”
“Look Danny, you really need to relax. We’re in Japan! Home of Godzilla, giant robots, and really neat little gadgets! Check out the new PDA model I picked up from that guy in the alleyway! It’s not even been released in the USA… they say its because of faulty wiring, but I know it’s a plan by the conglomerates to keep good technology out of the average mans hand… OUCH!” The African American boy dropped the sparking device aside, quickly sticking his stinging hand into his mouth.
The third member of the trio sighed, and shook her head. “Aside from his lack of common sense in shopping, Tuckers right Danny. We’re here on a summer exchange program, not an invasion. Just relax and enjoy the culture. I don’t see what your so worried about. I mean you speak better Japanese than I do.”
“That’s my dad’s fault. Fenton works has several Japanese investors, plus he tends to find more ghost sightings and believers here. Last time we came to Japan he was investigating a legend about a ghost in a lake. Something about it haunting lovers. Didn’t find anything, but the local onsen was rather nice. “
“Really, than how come he didn’t join us as a chaperone for that Shinto shrine yesterday?” Sam enquired, raising an eyebrow curiously.
“He also has a series of restraining orders prohibiting him from coming within 200 yards of several dozen shrines. Something about trying to capture the sacred spirits…. Anyways that’s not the point!” Danny stomped his foot in agitation, before glaring at a shadow that moments later revealed itself to be a small black cat. “The point is I’ve got to stay on my toes!”
“And why is that? We’re in Tokyo, home of anime and video games! Nothing to worry about here!” Tucker beamed as he fished up his OSHA unfriendly state of the art Japanese PDA from the ground.
“Gee, and don’t you two find it suspicious on exactly how we got here?” Danny Sighed, why couldn’t his friends see it?
Sam raised an eyebrow in curiosity. “And what is there to be suspicious about? We all signed up for and were accepted for a summer program here at school.”
“And how exactly was the school able to afford the program Sam? You have to admit our school does tend to have other priorities for spending their money. Like say, the sports and cheerleaders?”
“Ah but the money spent on the cheerleaders is a great investment in my opinion…”Tucker smirked, then winced as Sam smacked him upside the head.
“Stop being such a neanderthal…. Anyways the answer is really simple. The exchange program was a stipulation in the payment of a donation for a new stadium from a rich anonymous donor. I mean how many of your enemies are rich……oh.” Sam stopped her eyes widening as she gazed over Danny’s smug smirk. “ Oh come on Danny… you Don’t think Vlad would go to all that trouble….”
“He would…” Danny shook his head. “I just can’t think this is a big trap set by him. If it is I have to be ready…”
Sam sighed and shook her head. “Look Danny even if Vlad is behind this, and I’m not saying he is, you’ve gotta relax. Otherwise you’ll exhaust yourself before any real danger shows up. Back me up here Tucker… TUCKER!”
Sam turned in glared at Tucker, who had his head bent over his PDA pressing buttons furiously. “In a moment Sam, three more pokemon and I’ll hit a new high score!”
Danny chuckled as he watched his best friend grit her teeth as she resisted the urge to throttle his other best friend. “Heh, Alright I suppose your right. Still I think we all need to keep a sharp eye out.”
Having calmed his fears somewhat, Danny turned around the corner stopping as he….
