"'Unknown'?" Locke asked, raising a brow.

"That is the case. Apparently, it's not anything that has been seen before with any certainty. It could be a species that the Lunarians have come across before, but...."

"After so long, the ships could have changed a lot."

"Exactly, sir."

"Then what can you tell me that I didn't know a few minutes ago?"

"Well, it seems to be moving either under very low, or no power," Corporal Abbas replied. "Basically, it's floating dead, with only momentum and anything like the solar wind or planetary gravities affecting it."

"Like a feather on the water.... But this 'feather' will need to be checked out. Carefully though."

"Sir?"

The colonel gave his subordinate a flat smile. "We don't know anything about that ship, and there are a lot of reasons to go like that. It could have had a disease outbreak, an accident, an infestation of something, or run out of its version of 'gas'. And that doesn't bring up the idea of an attack."

"On us?"

"Yes, but not by the folks that built that thing. Imagine, if you will, if they were attacked by an enemy that was following them. Or if they took whomever was on that ship out, and decided to leave it as a trap. It could even have been turned into a weapon to use against others."

Abbas blinked slightly. "You don't mean...."

"Could be a 'Trojan Horse' corporal. And if it were to be a Berserker, like the ones that we've heard about...."

"That would really be a 'Trojan Horse' to be reckoned with."

"Exactly," Colonel Locke agreed, with images of the possible troubles that one of the machines that had been designed to destroy all sentient life would do if it reached the Earth running through his mind. It wasn't a pretty picture, and he pressed his lips together while:

• the derelict was tracked.
• a mission to the derelict was put together.
• it turned out that the derelict actually had something interesting to offer those who claimed it.
• the derelict was not something that they would want to approach by any means, though they didn't know that right then.
• the strange ship was less important than the race to claim it would be.
• something else happened.
