Ace Combat - The Adean War: Here's the Setup... [Episode 163117]

by MSA

In 2004, the Republic of Eurusea seized the Anti-Asteroid Railgun system "Stonehenge" and began a war of aggression, rapidly driving the ISAF coalition forces back in disarray, spreading rapidly over the Usean continent. In late September of 2004, emboldened by the inactivity of Osea and Yuktobania in the face of the blatant Eurusean aggression, the Duchy of Onze launched a bid for hegemony over the entire continent of Adea.

Onze's primary concern was the larger Adean Federation, occupying much of the eastern mass of the continent. Adea, despite it's smaller military, possessed a superior industry and economy, in addition to the bulk of the population. These advantages, given enough time, would prove to be decisive, and Onzen military planning centered around delivering the greatest force in the shortest amount of time.

Between these two nations were the Kingdom of Salome to the north, and the Republic of Nephil, occupying a much of the southern highlands and the coast. These nations were considered little more than a minor obstacle, but ones that needed to be subdued. Against the formidable Onzen Army and their well trained Air Corps, the Kingdom of Salome fell swiftly. It's capital city of Savarre was captured inside of a week, opening the way to invade the Adean Federation.

The same could not be said for the Republic of Nephil. Though their military was grievously damaged in the Onzen blitzkrieg, the highlands were easily defended, and the Nephilim had already possessed several plans that made excellent use of that quality. Their capital city of Mephis remained untouched throughout the initial assault. The Onzen Military, preoccupied with attacking Adea, were content for the moment to simply bottle them up.

They had far more pressing concerns to worry about. Though great care had been taken in planning the logistics distribution, the Onzen front line was becoming increasingly plagued by supply shortages, causing considerable delays and an increasingly uneven advance. Recognizing their supply lines inadequacy, Onzen military planners commenced the rapid construction of several forward supply depots in mid-December. This led to a crucial delay that allowed the Adean Army to stabilize their defensive line.

Though the Nephil Army remained mostly intact, the Nephil Republic Air Force was greatly wounded by the earlier assault. In late February 2005, the Air Force adopted a proposal to set aside a significant portion of their budget to hire mercenary forces to bolster their flagging strength, and in short order increasing amounts mercenary units began to filter into the country.

By the start of April, Onze had finished work on their front line supply bases, and were prepared to resume their advance. Within days their military was again on the move, moving rapidly to isolate and engage the Adeans and secure their territory. Though resistance was stiff, their advance seemed inexorable, and it was generally considered that the Adeans had at most a year before the Onzen military machine reached their capitol of Adon, on the southeastern coast.

At or around the same time that the war resumed, Nephil was also prepared to commence their counter-attack, spear-headed by the foreign mercenaries.

This is their story.
